Exclamation Early night WILD without WBTB

Is there any technique you can use to go straight into a lucid dream from wake as soon as you go to bed (like a WILD without WBTB)? I've tried to WILD as soon as I go to bed but have had no success (maybe because of distractions associated with early night, like the neighbor's lights through my window or the TV in the other room). Se people say that it is impossible to WILD without using the WBTB method.

Can it be done, and how?

Normally this is almost impossible to do, because you don't have a REM period that early in the night. If you do have dreams early in the night, they are very short and lack vividness.

You may be interested in trying to WILD during an afternoon nap. Try around 2 or 3 in the afternoon. If you are napping, you have a good chance of entering REM right away.

You can also try screwing up your sleeping schedule to be polyphasic, but this has other (obvious) drawbacks.

Yeah thats right, but firstly I recommend trying to do it using WBTB if you havnt had a successful WILD before. Purely so that you get used to knowing what signs to look for and what it feels like etc. When you have done it a few times that way you can trry it without WBTB, but yeah easier during an afternoon nap.

I would try, but I'm (unfortunately) usually doing stuff around then. But if I have a day where I'm on a long car trip around then I'll try (I fall asleep in the back seat so easily).

EDIT: I would just go to sleep and have a normal non-lucid, then shoot for a DEILD when I wake up, but I tend to awake from a dream and then fall asleep again quickly, before I even get a chance to think about anything complex like, "Hey, I remember...if I stay still then maybe I can DEVILD!"

No that's not a misspelling it's just a specific DEILD where you use visual imagery.

Its definitely more difficult to do a WILD w/o a WBTB. Ive only done it once completely by mistake; I was trying to just go to sleep and was having somewhat of a insomniac episode, so I did the WILD technique trying to go asleep but ended up in SP, so I just went along w/ it.
Robot's right about the vividness though, its not that clear, at least not for me. So I definitely recommend trying it w/ a WBTB; you pretty much cant go wrong.
