      I'm having real trouble WILDing

I usually try twice a week, and have been for a few months. So far all I've managed to get are weak vibrations, and that's only happened once or twice, the other times, I've laid there for sometimes an hour and a half before becoming frustrating and just staying awake till morning.

This is more a topic to vent my frustrations than anything else. But I was curious about something. I'm not sure how to word this, but basically I've found that I can either see with my eyes, which just gives me the vision of the back of my eyelids, or I can let my mind wander a little bit, which makes me sort of 'see' and imagine more in my minds eye. Usually when I try that I fall into regular sleep though. (hopefully this makes sense)

Should I be focusing on seeing through my physical eyes or just letting my 'minds eye' take control and focus more on my breathing and counting?

I just had my first WILD yesterday, right after an epiphany about what I was doing wrong during my WILD attempts.

First of all, it sounds like you are using two types of 'vision' during your attempts.

Actual physical vision, seeing the backs of your eyeslids.... this is NOT the way to go. The whole point is to disconnect your consciousness from your physical body, and grounding yourself by something like your eyelids is something I've tried and seems to always fail.

By letting your mind flow, you are simply seeing the HI. This is what happens before you fall asleep, yes, and usually leads to unconscious sleep. You can use HI to get into a dream, so this is at least on the right track.

Now, my epiphany was that I am using the two incorrect types of vision while I am trying to visualize my way into lucid dreams (this is for at least if you are VILDing I guess). I would do the same as you and fail, fail, fail. During my visualizations, I would simply imagine a sort of view of whatever I was visualizing that didn't include me. Almost like a camera was hovering around the place I wanted to be. I kept failing, failing, failing, until I realized that my visualizing should literally be from my imaginary dream eyes. I should be able to see my hands, I should have to imagine turning my head to change what I was seeing... as soon as I did this, I got my first WILD after about 5 months of nothing. And I didn't even go through SP (http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...88&postcount=8)

So anyway that is my two-cents, hopefully you are having the same problem as me and that simple change can bring you success!!!

Hey, thanks Shift! I've been having the same problems as Ocelot, and I think I really get what you're saying. I'm going to give it a try tonight. ;D

So wait...do I have to imagine my dream self...then see through my dream self's eyes? It's kinda hard to imagine what you're describing.

to me it seems like everyone of this forum has one technique that they are good at maybe you should go and try other techniques to attain lucidity
"Next time your eating a Reese's and some guy named Reese comes up to you and says let me have that. You better give it to him. I'm sorry Reese, I didn't think I would ever run into you." - Mitch Hedberg

That's exactly what I'm talking about. In fact, do this. Turn around in your chair right now. Stop, take a moment to look around, at your environment, at your body, smell the air, listen, feel the wind(if any, ac or fan?) and whatever you are sitting on, how your body is positioned... Now close your eyes, spin back around, and try to imagine that scene again, just as it was. That's what I'm talking about.
