      ritual "suicide"-& nightmare-induction.. :-))

      hello people
i once tried a technique insprired by a ancient tibetan ritual of "self-sacrifice": during the ritual the main priest commits mentally suicide - sacrificing his ego before god....... and in another textbook i read that tibetan priests also actively practiced "nightmare-induced" luciddreaming. (chasing demons yourself into your dreams.....)
ok: so, what did i do? before going to bed i imagined myself and started imagening stabbing myself with a knife...... - really intensly! - imagined sound and visions like in "friday the 13th" or "nightmare on elmstreet" - with every stabbing i mentally screamed: "this is a dream": result : in the first night i dreamed that i was in a nazi-concentrationcamp and that a huge crowd of people were stabbing me with swords. in the second night then i was in an appartement and all people present started throwing knives at me - small knives and not sharp anymore - that was very annoing to me and i screamed in the dream: "why the fuck is everybody throwing knives at me?". in the 3rd night - after butchering myself mentally before going to bed.... - i was dreaming that i was shooting arrows myself..... and suddenly i realized: "this is a dream! sharp weapons are my dreamsign!" ......... and off i flew into the open skies of a lucid dream..... 8)
i still like this induction method: but be aware - the first few nights you will wake up terrified and with racing heartbeat.......

I'll have to try that. Nightmares suck, but I love th relief when I wake up, and all the adrinaline rushing through my body .

the sounds like it could be emotionally traumatizing. What if you end up killing yourself from all this subconcious stuff. Maybe you should write a tutorial. Mental suicide induction of lucid dreams.

      books

      hi sparky
was offline for some time. here some literature to start with: (these are the german books - but the originals are in english - check out the authors on amazon)

Evans-Wentz, W. (1958). Geheimlehren aus Tibet. Basel: Sphinx Medien Verlag.
      (secret teachings from tibet)

Namkhai Norbu. (1994). Traum-Yoga. Der tibetische Weg zu Klarheit und Selbsterkenntnis. Bern: O. W. Barth.
      (dream-yoga)

another book was on tibetan ritual daggers - dont remember the title or author anymore - but google it - maybe you find something also under the tibetan name of ritual daggers : phurbu, phurbus, phurba, phurbas - here a link: http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm

serious stuff - but good for your soul.........

Have you forgotten that dreams are a part of life? Some of us, myself included, try to lucid dream in order to make sure we are making the most of our lives. You, on the other hand, have this misconception that dreaming is something seperate from being human. It's this world that, if accessed too much, could become hazardous to our normal, waking lives. Luckily, the contrary is true. It promotes excellent cognitive health through improved memory functioning and general emotional happiness. Lucid dreaming is not a time intensive process. It requires minimal waking time and effort.

I am not going to waste at least a quarter of my life unaware and understimulated.

I think the reason this technique is so effective is because it is an intense mental image; one that would be difficult to shake even after you begin to fall asleep. You could probably use any extremely powerful scenario before bed to produce dreams about the subject. Thanks for the heads up on the technique. I'll give it a try.

That's certainly an unusual technique, but I'll just bet it works, because almost every time I've become lucid has been when I have been having a really difficult time doing something, like running late for work, or having trouble doing something. As I don't like the idea of picturing myself being stabbed to death in my mind, as I would not want to take a chance on attracting this sort of experience to myself, which could happen by repeatedly visualizing it, I will modify the idea and will probably modify it a lot, to see myself flying around all over the universe or something of a positive nature, but I still like the idea of picturing something before going asleep to create the events in which one can become lucid. Thanks for sharing it.

maybe i'm going off on a limb here, but for myself and like some have said above, having a hard time like being late for work, or a nightmare may make rc's easier, which leads to lucidity. (this is confussing, try to bare with me)

maybe stress plays an important factor in lucidity. maybe it's because when we are stressed, or scared, etc, we try to look for a way out of the situation. for example, my whole life i've been having LD's. it's just recently that i found out what they were, lol. when i was younger and had a nightmare about someone trying to kill me or cause pain, i would realize it was just a dream. i could tell myself that and even though i knew it was a dream, i couldn't change my surroundings to something better. what i could do is make it so the person after me couldn't harm me-they would shoot and miss, i would get away, they could stab me and nothing would happen. i would still remain scared for some reason though. i think its because i just thought they missed me, and i didn't realize i was stopping them from causing me pain.

      make sense?
...we barely have time to react, let alone to rehearse, and i don't think i'm any better than you, but i don't think i'm any worse...~anni
