I'm also a musician. There are ways to train your mind not to actively listen as you fall asleep. When I fall asleep with music on, it needs to be faint (background). I usually don't fall asleep to music, but when I do, I use classical or ambient. I would just suggest not listening to any music that has overtly negative content (sound or lyrics) but do whatcha like. I'm sure music does affect our consciousness though. I've heard of studies done that prove this -especially if you listen to a lot of the same stuff a lot of the time.

Last night I put on a classical radio station and let it play all night. I found myself waking up every hour and with a new dream every time. Although, I can only remember bits of my dreams, (there were so many) they were all really clear. Not once did I become lucid, I'll try it again tonight though.

I agree with this. Maybe I'm just too easily distracted by noise.

i guess its just "whatever floats yer boat" in the case of everyone, whatever makes your brain "work" better.

Energetic resonations, flowing from your open circuits…
Can I plug myself in? and read all your fears that you keep locked away.
Just as the world is tugging at the safe that locks them tightly away,
Gravity is pulling your finger closer to the gun pointed at your head.

Don't be so sure. I like to expiriment with all kinds of music. However, if I don't like it when I hear it I won't hesitate to say so. I like to let it sink in though.
