      Memory's role in lucidity

      Greetings,
I'm presently reading "The Conscious Exploration of Dreaming" and the authors, Brooks and Vogelson talk about the importance of memory in lucid dreaming. The theory being that the more you develop your memory, the better you'll be at recognizing the inconsistencies (purple squirrels, flying aircraft carriers, etc) in your dreams. LaBerge talks about memory in his book as well, but more in regard to enhancing MILD techniques. I'm wondering if anyone has had any payoff in lucidity by exercising and developing greater memory ability.
Dream Big, Live Large.... BTW, can you breath with your nose pinched shut?

Yeah. Memmory is really important. I cannot directly tell you if it is important primarily but secondarily it is really important as it supports motivation to continue, as better remembered dreams seem more vivid and more fun to.

In my opinion ability to recognize inconsistencies is directly dependent on
      1. How aware you are at that situation
      2. If you are used to search for inconsistencies

First is an exercise of awareness which can be improved while performing meditation.
Second is really dependent on what kind of inconsistencies you are searching for: These inconsistencies are in LD terminology called dream signs and they can be divided into categories. Each category needs different kind of methods how to search for them.

There are internal dream signs, external ones, contextual and .... {I cannot remember right now )

Searching for internal dream signs needs you to familiarize yourself with moods and notice changes in them.

Searching for contextual dream signts needs you to perform reality checks.

      .....

. Well. In every way. Improving your memory will help you increase your awareness and will add you self confidence in practicing other exercises too, so Yess it has connection with lucid dreaming.
