      Remaining Lucid

This is really becoming a problem for me, whenever I'm lucid the dream fades away in about 5 seconds and I wake up.
How do I practise remaining lucid ? I know I should spent on exploring the dream.

General concensus would be that you're getting too excited - which wakes you up.

Most of the guidance states that you need to take it in your stride and keep calm.

I've even read that strong emotions are best avoided - but not sure about that. I've been pretty scared in nightmares and this didn't end the experience.

You're right strong emotions should be avoided until you can learn to stabilise your lucid dreams.

Try staying calm, not thinking about the dream fading away, but more thinking about what you can see. I often look for the closest thing to me, which I can focus on, but something big enough not to cause too much attention, like a tree or something, don't try reading or anything like that. Try examining the object, making it come to life, and the dream will stabilise.

Quite often the placebo affect works wonders, try taking a 'vivid dream' pill when lucid, or putting on your 'vivid dream' glasses. It is surprising how well this works. Another good technique is to ask a DC for ways to prolong your LD, they often help out

I often pick up a remote control, which I "know" will work.

Twice I've used this, and both times the control just appeared where I "expected" it to be.
