On the brink, but I keep freaking out.

I usually get really close to lucid dreaming on friday and saturday nights. It's usually unintentional, and my body starts to tremor, and I start seeing colors and feel like I'm being sucked through a portal or something. But I end up clenching my teeth, or at least think I do. I worry that I'm going to bite my tongue or lip and soon snap out of it, and completely forget that night's dream. Can I lose the ability to control my body, but still control my jaw/face? Or once I get to that phase, am I just imagining the clenching?

Also, how close would the 'portal' thing be to me actually dreaming? Is there more after that or do I have it down?

Your experiencing whats known as Sleep Paralysis. Your close to the so called "portal", but still got a little to go. Anyway, Its the main muscle groups that get paralyzed, such as your Limbs. Your facial muscles tend not to be paralyzed as much as the others, so its entirely possible your clenching your teeth. Its really kind of impossible to say unless someone is there watching you.

Anyway, when you get to that time where you feel like your freaking out, just keep focusing on your breathing, and with every breath, remind yourself that "I will be aware I'm dreaming". If you can stay focused, the rest of the experiences shouldn't bother you much. If they do start to bother you, try to remind yourself that nothing that is happening can harm you, and your still perfectly safe in your bed, that its all in your end, and try to force yourself to relax and not tense up.

It sounds hard to do, but with a little a practice, you shouldn't have too much of an issue with it.

Thank you for the tips. And it takes about two hours after I go to bed and can't sleep for these to happen.

If your attempting a WILD (which from the sounds of it you are), try doing it after 5 or so hours of sleep. Its much easier, and you'll be more relaxed, so it'll go quicker and smoother.
