      Sleeping Positions!?

Hey, I would like to know what kinds of sleeping positions you people use? Apparently Im supposed to be in a position that I am most comfortable in, right? It's ok if it's on the side? I always thought you always had to be on your back?

I dunno, it seems that being on my back makes it harder for me to relax.

Yes being on my back is very important for attaining any kinds of lucidity for some reason, even though its not the most comfortable way to get to sleep. Sorry I cant say why, Ive never found out myself.
A few months back I injured my leg and was forced to sleep on my back, my number of regular LDs practically tripled, though when it got better I found myself turning onto my side without realising it .

I hear that sleeping on one's back produces the most restful night of sleep. In my psychology class, we were told that of the three positions, back, side, and stomach, the back is more refreshing then the side, and the stomach is the worst position to sleep in. Mainly, sleeping on your stomach causes you to inhale extra amounts of carbon dioxide due to your face being partially buried into the pillow. Also, if I remember correctly, your muscles don't relax fully or cannot regenerate as well as sleeping on your side or back.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with the number of lucid dreams one has. It might.

Unfortunately I'm most comfortable sleeping on my stomach, so it takes more sleep for me to feel as awake as someone who sleeps in another position.

That's interesteing AcidBasick. I sleep on my stomach as well and find myself yawning throughout the day. I'll try out my back for a while and see what comes up.

The very first time i tried to have a OBE/LD i made it concentrating hard, lying on my left side. Beginners luck .
But ive never made it since, counscioussly that is. Since im a "on my side" sleeper i find lying on the back harsh and i get easly distracted and feel that im going no where if i try to get lucid. When lying on my side i fall asleep to easy. So if i only could lie between these, like in a angle of 45 . But ive just realized that the reason i got no where on my back is because... i get restless and jump over to my side and sleep. So if i just lie there on my back til i either get somewhere, or fall asleep that would be progress.
Its drawbacks with all of the positions. But i think you should go for your favourit sleep position and stick with it learning LD lieing in that position. If you fall asleep to fast like me, you have to concentrate harder. And if getting restless on your back, fight your way trough the restlessness... (im talking with my self now )

Never knew that. I sleep on my stomach as well. I refuse to sleep on my back when going ot bed because it would take hours, but I will sleep on my back when I wake up and to the WBTB method since I am very groggy and sleepy and that i will fall asleep regardless of sleeping posistion

I've never been able to fall asleep laying on my back unless I use melatonin or am extremely exhausted.
      Anyways...
When I try to WILD, though, I can't even come close unless I'm laying on my back, so I'd say that it definitely has an effect on LDs.

Tell me if you have any luck with this!

I can't get myself to sleep on my back. When I try, it takes me much longer to fall asleep then would if I were laying on my stomach, thus cancelling out any benefits of feeling more restful.

Well, last night was tough. I layed down at about 10:30pm, did some MILD then WILD unsuccessfully. The WILD attempt lasted about 1.5 hours and I gave up and tried to fall asleep. After about 45 minutes of trying to sleep I decided to get up and expend some energy doing what guys do best and then hit the sack again around 1:30am. Probably after about another 20 to 30 minutes I fell asleep and had a fairly interesting normal dream althought I didn't remember most of it. Not going to give up though, I'll be on my back again tonight.

I find sleeping on my side with legs straight, i get only a few non-lucid dreams. If i sleep on my back i'm usually pretty good on LD's although its more comfortable. If i sleep in the fetal position, i get LDs also, although it varies.

I recently have found however.. that oddly enough. If i sleep sitting up, i get lucidity 90% of the time. I had a really good LD in the middle of my english class today. Then i got yelled at for sleeping hehe....

lol, I've done that SO many times! The other day I was sitting in math and I leaned on my arm and fell asleep. I woke up when I fell out of the desk . I usually day dream a lot when I sleep (or almost sleep) sitting, but I've never thought of using it to help induce LDs...That's a good idea! Gotta go try it now.

Lucid dream last night because I was sleeping on my back (I think). Possible reasons why....
      A) placebo effect
      B) Sleeping on your back helps you feel the most awake
      C) It is harder to get to sleep so my thought of wanting to get a lucid dream stayed for longer and the time I stopped was closer to when I started dreaming than normal
      D) I really really wanted one

Hmmm, you know, my dad falls asleep sitting up ALOT of the time. I never bothered to ask him about what he dreams about though. Its just that, the only reason he usually does end up falling asleep like that is because he gets pretty drunk. I myself could never get to sleep like that, i just couldn't. At least now I have a new question for my dad, haha
