      The final step

I need a little advice on how to break through and become lucid. I've had a few lucid dreams before (as you can tell by my signature), but not many. I have very vivid dreams, and I remember them as well as I'd remember anything that happened in waking life. I control what I do in dreams (I used to be "on rails", I couldn't control what happened). My problem is that I don't realize I'm dreaming whilst dreaming. I regularly do reality checks and keep a dream journal. What can I do to step into lucidity?

Either WILD or DILD. There are many methods to use. Dream diary is just good to train dream recall and doing RCs during the day is to build awareness, it may lead to LDs sometimes, but it's pretty unreliable. I'd suggest to use MILD for a start. Many people don't understand MILD though, so make sure you get it right. The tutorials I found here mostly misunderstand the point and describe a suggestion method that isn't very reliable. Better read the primary source on that, which is "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge. MILD is all about intention and prospective memory.

There's no final step. Most people think of lucid dreaming as though it's a physical thing where you can have it by just knowing enough about it or worse by trying hard enough. It's not a direct transfer of actions to dreams although they do happen but seldom, dreams are symbolic and it uses day actions and experiences from anything from years ago to days ago to convey a certain message or story to the dreamer. So even if the dreamer did remember to do the check and get lucid it's just a way to convey a message and story to the dreamer not entirely because of habit. Here's a link that may help you see dreams for what they are...http://interpretadream.com/index.asp...n=Custom&ID=51 so to have a lucid dream, you need to know more about how your actions affect the dream content because each person is unique and have their own dream code.
