      Dream Yoga Snapping method

      Dream Yoga Therapy

      Note: Don't do this if you are allergic to rubber band material, of course. Also don't do it if you feel for any other reason it would be detrimental to your well being and overall health. Seriously. But it in my opinion, isn't harmful.

      Introduction

      Lets keep it short, considering this is already a technique, I did not make it up. This is not intended to be used alone as an RC, but together on your journey of dream yoga. I suggest the wonderful unbiased Dream Yoga guide by BillyBob. If this technique has already been created by someone for use in lucid dreaming, I was not aware. I made this for myself, and for everyone else having problems with discipline and habit making. I noticed a lot of folks including myself, have issues making some or all of the principles of dream yoga apart of our busy lives. I myself have not tried this for this purpose, but I can attest to it working with other habits that I wanted to make or break.

      To get more of an idea about what this is about, check out this link.

      How it's done

      Generally use this with dream yoga, but it can be used separately as an RC. Ah and I advise using a color that will catch your eye if you can, such as red.

      1) Buy a bundle of rubber bands, or anything elastic such as one of those hair-tie things.
      2) Put around your wrist and keep it there all day until bed and take it off, or keep on. (remember to put it on in the morning!)
      3) Snap it against your skin (enough for it to be a painful reminder) whenever you find yourself drifting off into fantasy, emotions, or other thought.
      4) Return to the moment.
      5) Repeat when nessesary.

      Why?

      Two reasons.
      1) It is a physical tool in which you have to remind you to pay attention and take control, also the pain will tell your brain not to stray from the desired goal.
      2) It allows for habit building, so that later you can do it without needing a rubber band. (may take a while for dream yoga)

      Advantages & Why it works

      -The pain will and should teach your brain not to wander in thought. (after a while of course.)
      -It serves as a material reminder of what your doing, and your purpose.
      -You may notice in your dream if your emotions/thoughts begin to drift, you are not wearing a rubber band, then become lucid.
      -It gives you the ability to consciously discipline yourself, rather than a beeping watch.

      I welcome any comments, questions, or suggestions. No concerns, this aint the complaint department.

      Isn't this administering your punishment when you actually come back to mindfullness though? Seems a wee bit backwards in that respect.

      Not when you have the reason in mind for the punishment no.

      It's sort of like if a kid spills orange juice on the floor, and his mother slaps his hand to tell him what he did was bad. Thats like saying you should smack his hand during the process of him spilling it. That would probably knock it out of his hand though, lol.

      Wow, what a brilliant idea.

      I like your approach in that you're aiming for a general mindfulness which is bound to have benefits as well as the induction of lucid dreams.

      I used to use anchoring by squeezing my wrist to evoke an attached emotion which worked fantastically, much like I expect this to.

      I knew those rubber bands around my wrist were going to come in useful :-D

      So what do you mean when you use the term dream yoga?

      I'm subscribing to this thread! Love it. Even the rubberband on your arm is a reminder to do an RC
      "What if I were to tell u that you can take control...of all of this? Look at all these people. Seems as though they're just all chatting away? Nothing to do with u. And yet., maybe they're only here because u wanted them to. U are their god. U can make them obey u or even destroy u."

      Sorry I haven't given a reply to this topic, real life calls as usual and have been busy with the holidays. I myself haven't started yet, I want to get all of the holiday excitement out of the way so I can start it fresh. I would have replied sooner, but I didn't know anyone would really be too interested.

      @ares,

      Thanks man, I got the idea when I remembered how I got rid of some of my phobias through using bands. As for your question about Dream Yoga, here is the link, if you need to know anything else, feel free to ask. http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=34263

      @Naturally Lucid,

      Thanks, I hope you find your way to nightly lucids with this technique!

      @Darklight45,

      Yes you can use it in school, it is very discrete. If someone happens to catch you smacking your arm once, pretend like they are crazy for even noticing. For example, I like to say, "whaddya mean?" in a way that says I don't even know what your talking about. It gives off the message that what your doing is a nervous tick, or some type of subconscious habit that your not aware of.

      I ramble on anyways, further questions are always welcomed.
