Anything like this usually happen to begginers?

Hey all! First time post here.

recently Ive been rather obsessed with lucid dreaming (just watched the film "waking life" and been reading stuff constantly). I think ive been rather passive with trying to train myself to become aware in a dream though, I have excellent dream recall, I can usually remember around 3 dreams a night, and I just started a dream journal. Usually in my dreams I dont really feel like im controlling myself, It seems more like Im just doing things, Is this usually the case? and are there any tips for getting over this?

I do think that I might have actually had a lucid experience though, kind of. Just a couple of nights ago I woke from my sleep at about 3 am, and scince I was awake I decide to write my dream in my journal, and I really really wanted to lucid dream, so when I started going back to sleep I was thinking about it a lot.

Eventually, I dont know If I was actually dreaming (in REM sleep) because I kind of still felt like I was still lying in my bed and it was dark. But I was getting dreamy feelings and I might have been seeing some things, so I thought I might be dreaming. Then the feeling began to fade and all I could thing of was a thing ive been reading about, dream spinning, but my vision seemed to have faded, so I diddnt really know how to spin... then all of the sudden I could see a "top down" view, looked almost identical to the old grand theft auto games (a lot of my dreams are heavily influenced by video games, usually not as specifically as this, but It seems like buttons are being pressed to make me do things and stuff). any ways, now I started spinning my "character" and I had this amazing feeling, and I started to see in first person again, but all that surrounded me were like, really old video game style hills (like the battle zone background), and I kept spinning. Then I felt like I was back in my bed again, but I started feeling lighter, and almost felt like I was floating, but thats all I remember... and I havent really remembered a dream scince...

But I just always hear that lucid dreams are really vivid and realistic, but this just seemed very dark like my vision was always fading...

anyways, any tips and insight will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like you had your first LD there
About the vividness, its something that can be differnent fra LD to LD, and especially in the beginning LD can be hard to stabilize and youll be kicked out of the dream before you know it. This has to be trained on alot and you will notice how much longer you can be inside your LD after some time.
Its great that you read alot and is enthusiastic about Lucid Dreaming. This is especially important in the beginning and can give you the oppertunity to have LD in no time .
Just keep on the good habits you have now, with dream journals and everything, and motivate yourself by reading so you get in the fundamentals of lucid dreaming in. Your on the right track
Good Luck and keep posting how you are doing with your progress

      Hi!

Here is no mistaking a LD. Once you have one, you will know it beyond a doubt. They feel just like waking life - you have all of your senses and mental abilites. You know who you are and what is going on. Everything seems as real as the physical world. But, there are levels of awareness, from very hazy to full-blown vividness.

      Thanks guys!

After re-reading the tutorials section I realized that I kind of utalized the WILD technique without even realising it .

Unfortunately I havent been able to remember any dreams scince (it was monday). I think I should go to bed earlier, and maybe set an alarm for later in the night. But dreaming is definitly awesome and something I know I can really get into.

Im also going to try to do RC's more often. Its so funny, the things we let pass in our dreams...

      It is.

      From My Dreams:
Me: I've put my head through a wall and somehow I'm in a bush that's 30 feet away from me at the same time. That's nice.

Don't worry about it not be too vivid, my first LD was all kind of dark, and gloomy, and not too vivid either. They tend to become easier to remember, and more vivid later.

I couldn't agree with your statement more. The full-blown vivid ones are the ones I live for (or rather dream for) and for me usually result from an FA, but I'll take hazy as opposed to non-lucid anyday.
