      How are you becoming lucid?

I'm finding it very hard to become lucid; it's mostly just a coincidence that I become lucid - or I either forget that I've become lucid from within a dream, mostly due to an interim awakening - and back to sleep/dream. I remember becoming lucid last night, one other time during this week for a few moments before becoming susceptible to the dream again - and once last week. However, the times before - and during the time at which I had slept today, I had not once become lucid. I've been trying LDS and reality checks consistently but still haven't achieved full lucidity - I've been trying to become lucid on a daily - or more than once a week since August, but have only achieved very little success - throughout most times I've become lucid, it was only for a few moments before consciousness re-synced to the dream environment; I've probably experienced a total of 8 since August - very minor success.

I've been wondering, from noticing the amount of lucid's most of the members here experience - how are you becoming lucid?

      More detail:
I haven't read my dreams often, but my dream recall increases every once in a while - sometimes, it decreases significantly, depending on how conscious I am upon awakening - and as to whether I'm motivated enough to log my dream; sometimes I don't log my dreams.

I've recently attempted Autosuggestion but haven't achieved much success - or from what I believe. On the contrary however, Autosuggestion may have triggered lucidity last night from within a dream - it wasn't a reality check, because I had just simply become conscious of the dream spontaneous but had awoken instantaneous.

The only reality checks I've been using are the hand, nose and quantity of fingers per hand; I would check to see if my hand is fine, to see if I could breath through my nose and to see how many fingers I have per hand. I have even drawn a D in pen on the palm of my left hand to induce a reality check; I would check to see if the D has been rubbed out or has been altered into something distinctive to how it was initially; this had triggered lucidity for a split second earlier during this week. I have been checking my hand throughout random intervals throughout the day; mostly throughout a consistent basis of once per 20/30 minutes - in contrast to how it should, it hasn't achieved much success.

First time I became lucid in a long time was last night, and specifically it's also the first time I feel I've ever used a legitimate technique that will yield more lucids. First off, all day yesterday I was thinking that I should get back into LD'ing. Then before I went to bed I listened to music for awhile. Eventually I got tired of not being asleep and tired of lying still (about 50 songs in haha) so I turned off my music and went to sleep. But right before falling asleep I had this thought that was just, hey, if I want a lucid all I have to do is just have one. And so I did. Sort of like MILD I guess.

So in short, from now on I will be doing MILD to get LD's. I never really believed in MILD before this, but now I think there is something to it after all.
I had a strange dream last night...

Thanks for the info - I might start trying this.

I am just lucky and have frequent DILDs. I do reality checks during the day.

Mostly DILD's (or MILD's), I think... I rarely do reality checks throughout my day, but I do think about lucid dreaming all the time, and read my dream journal before bed, and I go lay in bed with the intention of having a lucid dream. I find that this way something in the dream will cause me to RC (I usually go for the nose pinched RC or hand-through-palm).
my only regret is losing my original dream journal.

First off, it is very important to log all of your dreams. I can usually get away with logging them within 12 hours of waking up, but some people aren't so lucky. I had had lucid dreams before joining this site, but only once every couple of months. I was getting frustrated because I still hadn't had lucid dreams. One day, like magic I had a DILD and chained two DEILDs off of it ( DEILD is the most successful for me when I try to do it, DILD has given me 4 of the 7 recorded lucids I have though ). It will be like a magical transformation. Within the past two weeks I have gone from 0 lucids to 7. Just keep at it. And keep in mind that different techniques work for different people. I, for instance use DEILD whenever I can, and for some people they have no success. Sorry if I rambled.

When I first became interested in LD'ing I started a dream journal. This helped soooo much!! Not only was my dream recall being improved but I was all of a sudden having DILDs. It was great until I got lazy and was only writing one dream when I woke up in the morning and then eventually none at all. Now I'm luck if I have one every couple months . But wish me luck, I'm going to start a new one starting tonight!!

I either simply become lucid in (the start of) a dream without any conscious effort or DEILD. (though I've had a couple of lucids I suppose you could classify as WILDs, but I hate classifications anyway so I don't really give a damn. It's basically the same thing anyway and the sensation(s) from both are exactly the same to me anyway) Whenever I wake up during the night, I just lie completely still and wait for a loud bleeping sound, which tends to show up within mere seconds of waking up. More often than not, this sensation doesn't come and I fall asleep though. However, when the bleeping sound comes, it pretty much guarantees I'll have a lucid dream. Shortly after, I'll get the feeling of being squeezed through a small tube and I'll "wake up" in my dream bed. (sometimes leading to some very surreal experiences) Even if I fall asleep in the middle of my DEILD attempt, it still seems to lead to heightened awareness and I'll be very likely to nab myself a traditional lucid dream after a dream or two. DEILDs come very naturally to me, which is why it's my preferred technique; it takes practically no effort on my part.
