      Drugs and Lucidity?

I've read sugguestions from different sources that certain drugs *may* help induce lucidity. I've experimented with this a little and here are my findings:

Last night, about an hour before going to sleep, I ate a small dose of psilocybe cubensis [mushrooms], enough to feel minor effects (wakefulness, sensation in the body, slightly dilated pupils) before I went to bed. I went to sleep around midnight, and my sleep was definately affected. I woke up more throughout the night than I usually do. At 4:00am, I woke up by alarm, and stayed awake for about 20 minutes. My pupils were now dilated more than before I went to bed, and I could still feel the effects. When I went back to bed, I had a lucid dream, (only my 3rd or 4th to date) and for the first time, I was actually able to fly. I experimented with this ability for what felt like 10 or 20 minutes. Eventually I lost lucidity. I woke up, and focused on remembering the dream. I remembered it quite clearly, and foolishly, decided not to write it down. Now I'm left with vivid memory of flying, and some minor details, however I can't remember exactly how I became lucid. Later that morning, I had very vivid dream, in which I was talking to a friend of mine, and I explained to him that I had a lucid dream after eating some mushrooms. Somehow I didn't notice that this was a dream.

Ganja has been said to cripple your ability to have lucid dreams. I know for a fact that I rarely remember my dreams if I go to bed high. However, the first 2 lucid dreams I had occured when I smoked a *LARGE* amount of cannabis before bed. On both of these occasions I had no intentions of having a lucid dream, and in both cases, I became lucid almost accidentally (ie, no reality test, I just found my self somehow stating I was in a dream during dialogue). To be honest, I'm sure these cases were coincidental. Anyone else have any experiences where cannabis affected their dreams in a positive manner?

On the rare occasions that I've used cocaine, I've found my dreams to be much more vivid (perhaps just better remembered), but no luck in achieving lucidity. I've had the same findings with LSD.

Has anyone else experimented with drugs and dreaming?

Alcohol is the only drug I have experimented with. I've found that although I have some of the most vivid and strange dreams after having a few drinks, they are almost always NOT lucid dreams.

I suspect any dpressant like alcohol, barbituates, or cannibis will supress Lucid dreaming since they tend to dull your thought processes.

An active, questioning mind seems to be a prereq. for lucid dreaming.

i completely agree with cannabis negatively effecting dream recall but i have also had some very lucid dreams despite the fact i have been using it constantly, pot isnt the way to go with improving your dreams

on the other hand, salvia divinorum i would say probably would be the most beneficial plant you could use to aid your lucid ability. the salvia experience, in my honest opinion, is so close to what a dream is like, that it causes me to think of a possible connection. my friends have told me they have had vivid dreams after taking mushrooms but i have only done them once and didnt have any different dreams. i have also been told catnip and calea (sp?) can cause vivid dreaming as well.

      salvia

I agree with you completely about salvia being closely related to dreams. I've had some salvia experiences that resembled the lucid dream state, and the similarities blew my mind. I've read that it stimulates REM activity in your brain but I don't know if it's true or not. I came across some salvia plants in a dream once, ate the biggest leaf on the plant and it tasted incredibly good, like some kind of mint. (however in waking life the leaves taste bitter and gross)

Any idea how one might use salvia in the aid of dreaming? My only concern is that it wears off too quickly (ie, before you start to dream).

i think the idea with using salvia as an aide is to experience what it is like being in a different state not so much going to sleep during the effects of the plant.

so if your high before you sleep, how are you certain you had an LD, and it wasn't just an affect of the drug on your sleep?

      Experiment Number 2

I'm trying the psilocybin thing again tonight, this time with about 25% less. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

The Best 'Drugs' I've Found are organic.

I did mushrooms once in Amsterdam and when I say did I mean DID. For me the whole experience was just like that of dreaming where I just went off on thoughts and could actually see, hear and feel them, even tho I was awake sitting in a bar. (I had also been drinking copious amounts of coffee and smoking a few doobies mind).

I do smoke a bit but have not found it any help in having/remembering vivid dreams but I will share this little gem with you my friends...

The two C's. Celery and cheese.

A stick or two of celery before bed is guaranteed dreamtime for me and it must have a use as I've heard that it takes more energy to eat it than you get from it. Couple it with everyones favourite and bingo. try it and ley me know if it worked.
Look at me, I can fly.

      Test #2

No success on psilocybin test #2. I went to sleep before I got high, and woke up tripping right out, hahaha.... whoa! Anyway I'm gonna try it once more before next weekend, probably half way through next week some time. And on halloween I'll try it at a high dose.

      7 grams

haha I don't think you could sleep on 7 grams. I had more mush last night, but I partied through the evening and was unable to keep control of my intent, so I don't really consider it to be part of my psilocybe dreaming experiments.
