I should be able to try this out in a week or two when my work hours are reduced.

I basically have nothing to do for the next 6 months or so until i go back to University, so this seems like a good project. Best of luck to anyone else trying this. 8)

I'm new to this forum (and still trying to get the knack for LDing), but I do have some experience with Poly. I did this for a little over three years while in college. I was forced back into normal 8 hour sleep as Poly isn't conductive for normal society (8hr work days). I will tell you that I currently feel like my mind is in a haze... dull. I think the reason for this is actually a comparison for the clarity and sharpness while on the Poly schedule. It opens your mind to a point of laser accuracy. Kind of like having worn the wrong prescription for your entire life and finally getting the correct lenses. Now having seen that clarity, everything is back to the dullness... and I'm still not fully used to it. You must be a creative person to try this for more than a month or so... you need to utilize your time constructivly or this will be very harmful to yourself physically and emotionally, as you will have much more free time and complete focus to do.... whatever it is you do... write, study, invent, etc. Your diet should be spread out throughout the day, eat regularly and often, but only a little at a time... kind of like snacking every hour on healthy food... since your body is running fast, you need to supply it with a bit more fuel... and lots of water. Someone mentioned the inability to adapt it to a normal 8hr work day... I agree... unless you are in school, independently wealthy, or have the ablity to take a few short naps throughout the day (not just at lunch) this will not work for you... you will crash during work. Persoanlly, I scored higher on tests, had more energy, and understood something greater is presently at work.... something just behind obvious reality. If anyone has further queries, let me know. Back to my initial lack of LDing... if anyone has some pointers, I'd appreciate it. I stumbled on this site in error and seemed to have resonance - perhaps I had a few LD in my childhood. Anyway, I've been keeping a journal and questioning my wakeful state throughout the day, but everynight I either wake from a dream and am able to jot it into the journal, or I wake in the morning with various pieces of separate dreams. Either way, I am still only having basic dreams and so far have not become conscious. After months of journal writing and maintaining reality queues, I would very much like the experience. I read a few other tips - talking into a mirror and naming your subconscious. I will try these this week. -Flea

This topic's 5 month's old, but i thought i should reply rather than make a new thread.

The maximum amount of time a REM cycle lasts for is about 45 minutes...correct? So instead of 20 min naps every four hours, why not have 40 minute naps every 8 hours?

This would certainly be more convenient for me. The thought of dropping what i'm doing every 4 hours doesn't sound too appealling. Does anyone think that would work? What about these...

      2 hours every day
      1 hour every 12 hours
      30 mins every 6 hours
      25 mins every 5 hours

It doesn't sound too appealing because you're probably not in a schedule that supports poly. I understand your desire to make a schedule that is "easier" for you, but the idea itself has been practiced by many, and is not enforced for "ease of use" but rather health for the physical body. If you want something easy, simply follow normal public mass and sleep 8 hours straight. Your idea of sleeping a few 45 minutes puts you in danger of approaching stage 3 and 4 of sleep - deep sleep... you will feel like crap if/when you force youself awake during this. The idea is to get one chunk of 3-4 hours so your body gets two large doses of deep sleep, then a few more stages of REM, no more than 20 min, throughout the day. I'd tell you to experiment around with different schedules to prove to yourself what works best, but it takes a good month or so for your body to adjust, and it's probably not that healthy to change your internal clock so drastically, so frequently.

This is a very interesting subject, but working split shifts and long days as i do, there is absolutely NO WAY i am going to be able to incorporate this into my life.
Also, I don't think i could ever get used to only three hours sleep in twenty four...
I checked the link for this, and the person that wrote it, said he felt healthier..i'm wondering if it's more down to the diet he adopted, with the fresh fruit and vegetables, and the fruit juice, rather than the actual sleep schedule that did it.
I'm not trying to be cynical here; i'm just posting my thoughts.
Also, it's a damned shame i can't do this, because i was thinking only today how i'd like to get more involved in the study of sleep and dream research, but i have no idea how to go about it.
      any tips?
it's like, recalling and lucidity are fine (the latter of which i'm not so good at, but it doesn't bother me, in the fact that i'm more interested in the dreams themselves...lucidity is a nice bonus)
But now i want to learn more, do more.
      But how?

I appreciate your desire to “learn more and do more” but the ambiguity of this statement is similar to the natural curiosity of the meaning of life… You are referencing something that even scientists can only theorize on. Perhaps there is nothing specifically more for you do… perhaps there’s room for infinite growth. Research can only take you as far as the preceding explorer, but like anything else you should read and learn as much as possible in order to form new educated ideas. Per your other question of a healthy diet… of course! Just as exercise, a less stressful lifestyle, and bodily detoxification can help you feel healthier. But simply feeling healthier and the absolute clarity of thought are different subject matters. Best of luck on your future travels.

Wow, that would give you so much free time! Sounds extremely cool. However, I am not going to try it, becouse if you have to take naps every 5 hours, that would really be weird in your social and working/school life.

It allso might be dangerous... However if combined with WILD, couldn't you use All your sleep time to have LD's.... It would mean you would be (sort of) concious all the time!
