      The edge of consciousness

Hi all. Excuse the long post, hopefully it’s delightfully long and full of scintillating ideas you can’t tear your eyes from, rather than too long and rather dull

Anyway, I’ve been practicing doing WILDS while I’m going to sleep at night. I’ve got stuck at a certain point and need some guidance.

I’m lying there starting to drift off, getting some images and just about remaining sentient. The images get slowly more vivid, if a bit more random, and I can feel myself almost slipping into full unconsciousness. It all starts to get a bit trippy, so the next bit is based on somewhat fuzzy memories from enough attempts to piece together a picture.

I am vaguely aware that I’m slipping into a dream. I feel like I’m mentally straddling a gate and I just can’t quite touch both sides at once. One side is LD-o-rama (hoorah!!) and the other side is the waking world, or at least the bit before it goes all trippy, and I’m starting to lose balance so I have to make a decision which side to rest my foot NOW!!

So the obvious thought is, “just lean into it LD-ville”, right? So that realisation pops into my head and is enough extra weight on my conscious half to tip me back to the waking world.(Bah!)

I’ve been reading up and have started modifying my technique, which has lead to better recall of what’s happening but I’m still getting stuck at the same point.

Ok, thats the situ and although I want to make this as brief as possible, I wanted to go over the techniques I have combined to see if anyone can add/suggest anything to take me ‘over the edge’ so to speak.

I start a clear mind meditation and once everything has died down I imagine I’m in an unremarkable but light, airy room. I’m paying no attention to the room but concentrating on a smallish TV screen with a very vivid colour setting, it looks like a really good plasma or something. On that screen plays a looping dream incubation scene I worked out to include 2 reality checks (an excellent idea I got from a recent post here). On the second loop it tends to start getting trippy, as described above.

I thought that maybe sometimes I go into the dream but don't get lucid, maybe the 2 reality checks void that now?

Maybe I’m just not remembering? My recall does suck at the moment but I’ve worked out a system to remember if I had a lucid dream. I can’t assume I’d remember to use it once lucid but I think it lessens that possibility too - although I'm open to ideas.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with it, any replies are much appreciated.

Wait a minute! Did you say when you were first going to sleep at night? If so, that could be the source of most of your problems. Some people can WILD first thing, most have difficulty.

I've found that I cannot WILD until after at least 5 hours of sleep. For me in any case, I start a quick decline into delta when I go to bed.

It sounds to me like you are heading in the right direction, try it again after sleeping for a little while. How long have you been practicing this?

I've found that the only thing that works for me is to give myself up to the unconciousness and hope that I can detect when sleep paralyzation begins.

After that point, I can rouse my concious enough to keep it during the transition.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

I have tried to do it a couple of times in the middle of the night but I find I can't concentrate enough and just fall asleep, I'll perservere and let you know what happens.

How long have you been practicing this? [/b]
It's about 2 months since I first attempted a basic WILD, gradually refining until maybe about a week ago I added the last few elements described above.

I've found that the only thing that works for me is to give myself up to the unconciousness and hope that I can detect when sleep paralyzation begins.

I can see the lgoic, what sort of success rate do you get detecting the paralasys? Do you have any methods to make sure you don't become TOO aware?
