      New Reality Check? Maybe...

Hello fellow dreamers! As a new member to the site this is my very first post. Now I have yet to thoroughly explore the various and numerous posts on this site, so please do excuse if what I am saying has already been said/suggested and I've wasted any or your time. What I am trying to suggest is a new technique to induce a Lucid Dream (sorry; LD). If any of you have used this method before, or there is already one of those crazy acronyms for what my technique is called (WILD, DILD, etc.) please do let me know. Also excuse any grammatical errors and spelling. So without further adieu; my dream:

Last night I ended up outside of the school I used to go to. Upon ending up there I asked myself a very simple question; ''How did I get here?'' I found out very quickly that I could not recall driving, riding the bus, or getting a ride from anyone to this spot, standing outside my (old) school. Upon this realization I deduced that I must be dreaming and almost became lucid until... I noticed Bill Cosby standing in the front and proceeded to walk over and shake his hand (I was watching Inside the Actor's Studio that night where Dave Chappelle had mentioned Bill and a photo of the Time Magazine where he was featured on the cover was shown) thus ending any chance of keeping my almost attained lucidity.

The point of this dream is not that I almost became lucid. It is that when I awoke I realized that when in a dream, the minds concious flow (Stream of consciousness) doesn't seem to exist, or rather, work as it does when you're awake. Example; when you drive to a friends house, or to the store you don't question how you got there or even why you're there. In your mind you already know, and like in a dream you accept this as reality and don't question it (I guess this is a subcoscious thought?). So as I awoke from my meet with Dr. Huxtable, I realized that a new way to reality check would be to constantly be aware of where you are, where you've been, where you're going, how you got/left there, etc. so that when you are in fact in a dream, you are faced with some of these same questions, like when you're standing on top of a pink elephant thats running down the street on its eight legs you can simply try an recall how you ended up there, and hopefully the answer will be that you cannot remember, and the not being able to remember how you ended up there/why you are there and the new realization of your surroundings, should be the trigger (hopefully).

The fact that this all came to me this morning means I (and maybe some of you at home) can test this crazy theory of mine out mine for a while and see how it all works out. Hopefully it does, and if it doesn't, well then, I guess its back to checking clocks, and trying to ram a finger through my palm.

      Happy Dreaming.

Well, just to say, when you said almost lucid. You were actually lucid. Lucid Dreaming is aware of dreaming, not controlling it.

And also, this is interesting, and known as a mental RC. I often use the mental RC of "Do I remember getting here", or "Do I remember waking up this morning?". Definitely not something new, but your right how the mind is different from lucid dreaming vs. reality. For me anyways. If it works for you, keep it up!

You are so right on that point! It further confirms that linear, logical thinking does not apply in dreams. Thank you for the insight
