Just got lucid through a DILD but everything stays black? READ HERE

I just had the longest night of lucid dreaming two nights ago! It was crazy!

Not only did I become lucid three times in one night but they lasted ages! My best lucid experience ever!

Anyway, sometimes when I am asleep and suddenly become conscious and realise that I'm dreaming, the dream scene usually just turns completely black, and no matter how hard I visualise or command a scene to appear, nothing happens.

I was trying to think of everything I could do before it was too late, then I just remembered the FILD.

I did it and felt my hand go completely tingly. Then the tingling spread, straight to my legs. It got stronger and suddenly my FILDing hand just fell through my mattress. And I thought, "SHIT! FA!!" Opened my eyes and I was ready to do whatever I was able to!

      Good luck.

      Ages? Woah, congrats.

I haven't really looked into the FILD technique all that much, but it sounds like it proved to be pretty useful.

Yeah I can't normally get FILD to work from awake state, but this worked perfectly.

This is not a FILD, then.

      It is FILD-esque

Unless we could start using the term F-DILD? =P

It's just using tactile sensations to ground yourself in a dream. It's not ILD anything.

I have the same problem with everything turning black when I gain consciousness in a DILD. I was wondering how do you do this technique and did you do this from a dream state or awake?

Pretty much, keep the FILD technique in your mind every night before you go to bed so you don't forget about it when it will be needed in the future.

The next time you become aware in a dream and it goes black, do the FILD technique.

After a few seconds you should feel a wave of energy roll down your body. You may even get some hallusinations.

The last few times I did this I had what sounded like me talking but sped up to chipmonk speed. It then faded and the wave of energy had finished.

So I take it you are still in a dream state when you do this?

Yeah. As soon as it goes black, don't move, don't try to wake up.

Just a soon as it goes black. If one hand doesn't feel like it's getting anywhere, try the other.
