      Unhappy enough already

what is it with the same rediculous questions being asked every damn day.
if you have a simple question thats probably been answered many times already then search for it (at least a little bit, most of you dont even try), then if you cant find it post it in the newbie zone if your a newb and its a newb question. srsly words can not express how upset i get when when i log on and right next to each other see like 3 or 4 "was i close" or "was this sp" or "how come i cant wild" or the ever popular "can you lucid before bed"

i know it's rude of me to post an off topic post like this but come on.

if your just a noob here just asking the most basic of questions just wanting answers NOW at least show some courtesy to the rest of us and check if its been asked 37852 and a half times before you hurriedly make an account and ask your repetedly asked question with no intention of returning here unless YOU have another little tidbit you want to know or cant do something explained in depth 5 minutes earlier

THERE IS A NEWBIE ZONE FOR A REASON IF YOU HAVE A NOOB QUESTION USE IT

I know that we are all noobs at some point but at least think before you post. and if you have a noob qustion that you cant seem to find an answer to or have an actually problem then post it
thats why we are here we are a community that helps one another

I dont even know why im posting this, the people who its targeted at dont read other peoples posts anyway they make a quick 1 time account ask a bunch of questions that have already been answered and wait for replies with no thank yous or ever returning all together.

      sigh

well whatever i just felt like posting this. if you agree with me then good for you leave a comment or something. if not then sorry i wasted ur time just go to another post or eat some cocopuffs or something

So far we've got two, a good start.
I agree. But other than force newbies to actually read something, what are we going to do about it?

Then again, if people didn't ask questions, what good would the Dream Guides be?

      Things don't actually GET done.
Throw out some ideas and let's see if we can change that.

I think this is the best idea. Make a FAQ about the most asked questions

Sorry, disagree. Each person is different and wants an answer to their exact experience. Remember no two experiences relating to lucid dreaming are ever going to be exactly the same. Plus, new discoveries are being made all the time in the world of lucid dreaming and they may want the answer that is most up to date with current research.

Now what would be a good idea would be a teenagers section and a mature members only section, say 30+. Although even some 30 year olds are immature lol!

"Noobs" that ask these kinds of questions are a simple fact of every web forum and IMO making a sticky won't help much unfortunately. Its a great idea but its been tried on every other forum ive been a part of.

Unless we are will to adopt a totalitarian like policy of banning those who do not read the sticky before posting, the "noobs" who dont care enough to read before asking, won't bother to read it anyways. It could help overall but you probobly won't see the results you're looking for.

Repeated questions bother me too, but like DreamQueen said, especially in lucid dreaming, tossing out or discrediting a question at first glance because it appears like something that has already been awnsered, isn't fair or productive because lucid dreaming is so subjective and personal.

I reccently asked a question that wasn't really awnsered because it was in a way dismissed as a FA allthough, i'm fairly positive it was something else entirely.

sure we could do something about the repeat questions but how much freedom would we be giving away? do we really want to stifle different points of view as an unfortunate side effect of getting rid of some annoying threads?

I'd rather point out the mistake to the people doing it and if they don't change, then take action.

You missed the best one. "Was this a lucid dream?" *gouges eyes out*
Answer: If you knew it was a dream, yes. If you didn't, no.

The FAQ is a pretty good idea though. Plus I agree with Lysergic Lucidity.

EDIT: Better yet, in the FAQ link to threads where the question is explained/answered.

Maybe. Just tossing out ideas, not in the mood to refine them.

You'd probably need all your little fingers and toes, and then some, to count the number of times that this exact issue has been brought up, along with possible solutions.

But for whatever reason these kinds of changes (like making a FAQ) take a LONG time to take effect on DV. I once volunteered to take on a huge project (either this exactly or something similar, I forget now) and was ignored, probably because I'm not staff.

Sooo, not sure what to tell ya. Keep trying?

Oh, get over yourself. If you don't want to answer dumb questions, don't. There are plenty of us who don't mind. It doesn't matter what you do, no-one will read the rules. I didn't when I joined.

I agree, I'm tired of seeing those threads also. "Was this SP?!?!"

Short answer: If you have to ask it probably wasn't!

Ok, so which questions do you guys think are frequently asked enough to end up on on a FAQ?
      • Was this a lucid dream. (discuss lack of control versus lack of lucidity)
      • Was this SP. (blagh)
      • 1st/3rd person dreams
      • Saliva during WILDs
      • When should I WILD
      • Is listening to music ok

Those are all good ^ ^ also...
      - Help, dry spell!
      - I can't remember to RC
      - MJ and dreaming ( i see that a lot)

However, the search tool definitely has to be improved as well. I always search threads before I post ( unless my circumstance is very unique to me) and sometimes I find what I’m looking for, and most of the times I don't, and then I'll get "this has already been brought up, use the search!" Which of course, I did! SO that would be my suggestion..

BUT really, get over it….. every situation is unique and when you have your first WILD or SP or LD you really want to share and get feedback that is personal to you and not just read about other people's experiences, that is why DV is here, that is why I am a member, and I don't mind the redundancy one bit!

I don't post here that often but the fact is, nearly all forums suffer from the same problem.

As someone already said, this isn't a science, there's no exact, ever lasting answer.. and every question has its own slight twist.

The truth is, even if it was a science and there was one set of answers to all the questions then you'd be bored as hell. It wouldn't be a forum, it would be wikipedia.

yea, but everyone makes those mistakes when they're new so its good to be polite and simply tell them to check for previously answered questions (which a lot of people do and its very nice )

The reason why people don't say thank you is because they simply dont want to make a whole post saying "thank you" because it would seem like they just want to get their post # up.

FAQ page sounds like a good idea

rest I agree with and deny making a few threads some time ago when I joined.

Plenty of people ask about drugs, both inducing LDs with them, and using them inside of dreams.
Stuff about dreamguides, plenty of those...
