      Question

The MILD and WILD techniques suggest waking up in the middle of the night.. but what if I'm in the middle of succesfully having a lucid dream, then my alarm goes off in the middle of the night and ruins it? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the whole thing?

Actually you may want to read through the tutorials again to make sure you have your info straight. The WILD technique invovles you staying conscious until you begin to dream therefore likely causing a lucid dream. There is no alarm setting involved at all. Now the WBTB method is one where you set your alarm at the point where you will be in REM sleep. This technique is often used to induce lucids, however...your question about already being in a lucid when your alarm goes off is a tricky one. Do you ask because you already have lucids? And if you already have lucids, then why use this induction technique. And if you don't already have lucids then it is unlikey that you would be lucid when your alarm goes off. Also, I've found that when I'm lucid and something wakes me up, I can often go back to bed and enter the same, or different lucid dream.

What nina said is about right

If you are already having lucid dreams, then I suggest you try enhancing it with dream-induced techniques.
Unless you wish to use wake induced methods for the sake of learning ?

Otherwise, if you aren't having a lot of lucid dreams right now, WBTB is unlikely to interrupt what you dont have
In which case theres nothing to worry about - try WBTB and wake induced methods (MILD/WILD/etc)

Look - it *can* happen - but its unlikely...

      Good luck

I think that he was referring to how in the WILD tutorial it suggests that you should get 5-6 hours of sleep before attempting it. So to do that, you kinda would need an alarm... unless you're one of those people that's able to knock on your head the number of hours that you want to wake up in, and you do wake up naturally. It's the weirdest thing, a friend of mine has been doing it for years, she gets up every time!

      Cheers,

I dont think thats what the question meant, but since you mentioned it
I've self hypnotised myself to wake up at certain times, and it works quite well
At most, I'm one or two minutes out. The internal biological clock is quite impressive

Really? I thought he was asking "what if I set my alarm to be able to try one of thes lucid techniques, and I happen to be dreaming lucidly when it goes off". And lucidnina said that you don't need to set an alarm for .... wait. ok you know what, I just REALLY confused myself, I think I'll leave this here. I forgot what I was going to say.. haha.

But do tell me about this self hypnosis technique. Sounds interesting.

I don't want to hijack this thread, so I'll keep this short

Here's my method, originally inspired by LDGuy : Placebo's method for self hypnosis
Its not necessarily the best, but its mine *growls*
To do the wake up thing - just tell yourself you'll wake up at whatever time. Repeat it a couple of times.

Then you fall back to sleep, and continue the lucidity.

      no big deal.

Placebo, I'm gonna try that self hypnosis technique tonight. i haven't been having much luck with my lucidity lately...

No no, you're right. That's what I was trying to get across.

In order to do the WILD don't you have to sleep for 5 - 6 hours, then wake up? In order to do this, I set an alarm.

And to everybody - thank you for the advice. Yeah if I wake up I can see how I can easily go back to the lucid dream.
