Thread: "Woke up"

A recent lucid experience...

A couple of nights ago, i was out at the beach partying with some friends at about midnight, had a few beers, having a little bit of grass. Came home a few hours later, and lay down in bed as normal. After about an hour of sleeping, I'm not sure what happened but I "woke up" on the beach (which was the start of a dream).

The dream started as normal, and I wasn't conscious of it being a dream, but suddenly something startled me. I saw two people floating across the sky with shopping trolleys (*shrugs*). At that point I thought "hey, people don't fly!" and I became conscious in my dream! It was a wonderful experience, but I'm stumped as to how or why I became lucid in the middle of a normal dream, since at that point, and that night, I wasn't thinking about becoming lucid - it didn't even cross my mind.

Could it have been the alcohol or cannabis playing a role? Or my subconscious hard at work?
