      Why does this happen?

When I attempt a WILD after waking up after 5 hours, I don't even get to the strange feeling. But, when I would try on the couch, I would get as far as the sensation of 2 hands pulling my head into the coach. Why don't night WILDs work for me as well.

"What are you, a gangster? Get in that pool!"-Random DC of mine... don't ask.

Possibly because your mind doesn't associate the coach with sleeping so it is easier for you to WILD.

If you are thinking in your mind that night WILDs don't work for you as well as day WILDs then they won't. I personally have much more success WILDing during the day. It sounds like you may need to try being deeper into your REM period. Try WILDing after 6 or 7 hours of sleep. See if that works.
