      Sigils to attain Lucidity

Up until now my LDs have been spontaneous and random, occurring about once every two weeks with varying recall upon awakening. I have recently taken it upon myself to further develop this area of consciousness. I am an occultist, and my approach may be a bit different, but perhaps this will help someone. I tried it for the first time last night, and had three LDs in the early morning hours.

      What are Sigils?

In practical terms, Sigils can be thought of as very strong, direct affirmations. It is a way to use symbology to imprint an intention or desire directly into the subconscious mind. This may sound complicated, but the process is very straightforward and intuitive.

Start with a Statement of Intent. Your statement of intent is a short and to the point sentence of your desired result. I used "It is my Will to have and remember Lucid Dreams". Next we remove the vowels. We are left with "TSMWLLTHVNDRMMBRLCDDRMS". Next, we remove repeating letters. We are left with "TSMWLHVNDRBC". I go one step further, and remove every other letter. We are left with "TMLVDB". The point of the above is simply to shorten the Statement of Desire to a string of workable letters so that we can form the Sigil.

The next part is extremely intuitive. The point is to come up with a symbol, using the final string of letters, that is meaningful to you. Rearrange them, disfigure them, create something out of them. The final result should appear to have meaning. Avoid creating a random mess. Make it look organized, deliberate, and powerful.

Here is an example of the end result: http://www.flyingfists.org/archives/sigil%202.jpg

Next, charge the Sigil. This part is also rather intuitive. The point is to embed it in the subconscious. Some people behold the Sigil at the point of orgasm, some use pain, some dance themselves to ecstasy around it, and others, like me, simply meditate on it. Any of you who have tried to WILD should be competent enough meditators to charge the Sigil. I hold the symbol in my mind as long as I can without being distracted by other thoughts. When I can concentrate hard enough on the symbol that several minutes goes by while I am not distracted by other thoughts, then I am satisfied that it is charged.

Now burn the paper you have been working with and discard the ashes. Your Sigil is created, existing now only in your mind, and carrying with it the code to Lucid Dream. All of the above may seem like a lengthy process, but only because I tried to explain each step very thoroughly. It should actually only take you about 10 minutes to craft the Sigil, and another 10 - 30 minutes to charge it, depending on how you choose to do that.

Now that your Sigil is made, you must forget about your intent. Dont concentrate on Lucid Dreaming. Instead, accept that you will and put it out of your mind. You just created a tool with which you can directly communicate with the subconscious mind, so let it do its work. Before you go to sleep visualize your Sigil for a few minutes. Try to fall asleep while visualizing it if you can. No intense meditation, just gently hold it in your mind for a while, then sleep.

As I said, this technique wont jive with everyone, but it produced amazing results for me. I had 2 Lucid Dreams, each lasting about 15 minutes, and shortly after that an OBE lasting around 7 minutes. My recall is clear and detailed, and I had a blast with them.

In the first LD I spontaneously realized I was dreaming, and the other two I just naturally entered them with the awareness that I was dreaming. I had several intense dreams between them, including a false awakening, that wasn't lucid but clarity and recall was through the roof.

      Good luck.

Is there any reason this should work?
It sounds like auto-suggestion mixed with a bit of hocus-pocus.

I'm glad it worked for you, but has there been a study run on this?

There are numerous. Here is one.

Think of sigilization as creating your own personal logo for LDing, then using the logo to stimulate the subconscious mind in a deliberate way. There is no hocus-pocus involved in that. The method may be unfamiliar and strange, but in practice its no different than what corporations and marketing houses invest millions in every day, and with good reason.

Underrated and under-appreciated post. Found this via a google search before doing my own work on such a thing (cause I'm tired of saying the same like 3 or 4 mantras every night), so bumping for visibility

Thank you a lot for bumping this, Mzzkc. I'm going to use a sigil since I'm not so keen on mantras.
