      Is DILD'ing all about luck?

It seems to DILD, it's all about going to sleep and hoping you catch yourself in a dream. This means that you have to simply wait for a dream to happen. So WILD is the only technique where you can make yourself dream, right?

So is there no way to induce a DILD? Or do you just go to sleep hoping you'll "awake" inside of a dream?

That's what I do, I usually end up in a dream, but the problem is, I don't
notice I'm dreaming and I forget to do RC's.

DILD is all about the RCs for me. But yes, if you want to be sure you will have a lucid, learn to WILD.

I guess if you dream journal a lot, remember to RC, and have practiced MILD a lot, you can pretty much guarantee you'll have a lucid dream. Oh and throw in some WBTB, as well.

MILD is great actually, last 3 times I've used it I had a lucid dream. Thing is I've never WILDed, I guess those 2 DEILDs should count but the only reason why I got em was cuz I was lucid and I saw the dream fading so I remembered to stay still. So technically I can't DEILD unless I first spark a DILD. If I truly can't WILD, then I'll jump back to MILD.

You guys might be thinking, "Don't waste your time, if you can MILD just do that". That would be wise, except I don't really enjoy DILDs, simply because of the fact that you might not become lucid as soon as the dream starts. Let's say you're last REM of the day is 30 minutes, it would suck to randomly become lucid in the last 5 minutes, and then you can't do anymore cuz you gotta go to work or school.

Damn I wrote a lot, anyways if you practice these things frequently then you can become good at DILD and won't really worry about "luck" anymore.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

Yea that is true, but DILD doesn't require too much. And yea I hate when you become lucid for like the last 2-3 minutes and then next thing you know your alarm is ringing and your up!

Yea WILDing is probably the most effective but the hardest technique.

WILD is considered the only real way to achieve lucidity at will.

This is not to say that there aren't some very skilled DILDers out there who are capable of having lucid dreams seemingly on command. But there is some degree of luck involved with attempting DILD, as you are subject to a lot of variables and unknowns when you surrender yourself to the realm of unconscious dreaming.

I suppose you can only ever hope to become lucid when attempting DILD, but it is not all luck in the same sense as a coin flip. There are plenty of ways to tilt the odds in your favor, and the more experienced DILD practitioners will utilize a variety of techniques (often in combination) to allow themselves the best opportunity.
      While sleeping, watch.

You can almost be right that it is 'luck'. For me and I think almost anyone who is serious about getting anything done in an LD will go through 5 steps to DILD, not hope and wait alone. 1) Create a trigger in the dream to RC. 2) RC triggers Lucidity. 3) Lucidity triggers waking self 4) Waking self remembers to do things 5) Depending on ther dream condition wether what you do in the dream will get the desired results. At any steps it may fail and stop there..so it's like rolling dice.

WILD is just one step.....remain concious until dreams form....

out of my amazing total of 5 lucids (all dilds), I think only a couple have been just luck. All the others happend on days where i used my dream journal.

so I guess if i use my dream journal every morning, i'll have dilds at the very least a couple of times a week, only problem is im too lazy/tired to use my dream journal when i wake up

Lol, I'd like to buy a recorder. But for some reason it doesn't seem that natural to me... oh well, gonna try it soon anyways.
