Have you tried visualizations before you go to sleep? seeing yourself in a dream and becoming lucid the way that you want to , ie from RC?
If you have a lot of dreams where time is an issue, I would do RC that work around the time, ie read the clock a few times and if it changes then you know you are dreaming.
Try incorp the visualizations that you do before bed with the feeling of being late, really focus on that feeling and then do a RC (in your minds eye) and see yourself becoming lucid.
Do this for a few nights and really feel what it would be like and I would guess that you are going to be a lot closer then you are now.
For a lot of people when they are in the state that you are in, they are not always doing RC with as much attention as they should they check the time and are like, yup im awake no big deal.
With RC you should really look for a reason why you are awake or not, dont get into the habit of just knowing. When you really look you activate a part of your brain that forces awareness, and when you do this in a dream you will be lucid.
