As any other person can say, entering SP is for some people easier, and more difficult for others. When attempting SP before going to bed (which is more difficult) it all depends on proper motivation and relaxation technique involving visualization (imaging and evaluating heaviness/numbness of the body) - IMHO.
One must be deeply relaxed to enter SP easily, while keeping body still.
This is why it's easier, when you want to get SP in the middle of the night, when you wake up for several minutes (because your body is already fully relaxed, having been asleep just a while ago) The success depends mostly on the stillness of your body.
In other words determination and motivation play prominent role. It is also important to experiment a lot, to find the best technique for yourself. To find what suits you best. (This is what I did, I tried a lot. I got frustrated at some point, but overcame it. I set the goal of achieving it. After some time I got it, and now it comes to me naturally. )
ps. If you encounter hallucinations that means you're a half way through, Or you probably have alread had SP. The thing is that you might have not realized it, since you cannot compare it with previous experience that you lack. That's why we happen not to be sure about things we don't know yet/ do for the first time.
Keep it up, and good luck!
ps2. I'm not so experienced as other members here, but what I said just above, was based on my attempts which turned successful after some time.
