      the J method...

      Hi, im new here...

My auntwas reading about lucid dreaming and says she talked to a guy online about different methods and reality checks and he uses a technique called the j method. has anyone heard of it? you rationalize cause and effect for an action that you cannot control, and then throughout the day you review cause and effect, and then it becomes second nature and you go lucid in almost every dream you have because your brain is in the habbit of rationalizing situations and objects. sounds really legit to me. heres an example.

Joe wakes up everyday and jumps in the air to fly, it doesnt work.
joe looks at situations throughout the day and rationalizes them in his head using cause and effect. "i was hungry so i bought pizza and now im eating it" "i was thirsty so i got a drink, the drink is coke" etc

apparently you becomes lucid very quickly in dreams because you do the same thing while your dreaming
Yuengling, Rotts, and Carbon Leaf...yep, that sums up my life.

Oh yeah and that whole, never finding love because I'm a nice guy.

      Fuck.

Sounds effective, I'll have to start doing this. I hope I can remember to do it more than I do reality checks throughout the day.

But how does it help you become lucid?

in real life: I got angry so i drove away in my vehicle, the road is normal, no signs of odd things, just road. I've come to the conclusion this is realistic.

in dream life: i got angry so i drove away, past twenty five barrels of monkeys and a blue pigeon. I decide this isnt realistic, i am dreaming.

i dont know how to explain it but it sounds like it might help.

      cause and effect.

in waking life: i dropped the ball and it bounced a few times then stopped at my feet. this is real

dream life: i dropped the ball and when it bounced on the ground it changed color and rolled into the kitchen then back to the living room and was another color. Not rational, i must be dreaming.

if you train yourself to do reality checks during real life and that helps, why wouldnt it help to train yourself to recognize possible situations and impossible ones? pay attention to everything you do and see the cause and effect i guess? im new to this, i had my first willed lucid dream last night so im no expert. hehe

Oh I see, hmm, sounds very effective, now all I have to do is remember to do this.

Wouldn't this get kind of annoying, though?

I think it sounds interesting but I think I would have to think to hard. And that might be too much of a challenge for am at the moment... I think

This works for me, but I have a slightly different version. All throughout the day, whenever I change locations or enter a building, I ask my self "Where am I? Am I dreaming?"

It's a 2-part question. First I honestly try to answer where I am. I stop and look around, and give myself an honest answer. If it's hard to answer, you're probably dreaming. Second, I do a reality check. I pinch my nose and try to breathe.

I often dream about being in the house I grew up in (many miles away). The first time this worked I was standing at the door to my childhood home and asked where I was. I realized what was happening and became lucid.

Try it out. It adds another dimension to reality checks.
