      Awareness not transfering to dreams

Hi guys, I have a question

I have been writting in my dream journal nightly for nearly three weeks now. I have been practicing awareness while awake, doing RCs and asking "Why is this real?" a lot, and trying to identify dreamsigns (hard because I have odd dreams).

I have noticed that in dreams now I seem to notice more things that I otherwise would have just overlooked. But even if they make no sense, I never remember to do a RC. The awareness and such from waking life is not transfering to dreams.

For example, last night I was jumping super long distances, almost floating. All I thought was "Strange, but sweet"

Does this sound about right for three week's progress?

Well, i had my first LD after a month and then i had my second the night after it and haven't had one since. Don't stress about it. I recommend that you keep at it and maybe try a few MILDs during a WBTB thats what I'm going to do.

      great point, Draxis.

first of all, it took me a month and a half to have my first LD so you're already ahead of me!

here's what i did... a lot of people scoff at this and say it takes too much time.... or is unnecessary. but it worked for me and i might even go back to trying it as i'm in a dry spell.

i had an index card in my pocket and would keep a pen nearby. whenever i remembered, i would write down the time on the index card and do a RC. why write it down? not only are you doing a RC, but you're "aware" for the next 5 seconds after that, instead of just turning your brain off.

after a few weeks, i got a little frustrated because nothing was happening. THEN i read (on DV) to just relax and give myself a break. i tend to be tough on myself sometimes. perfectionistic. the FIRST night that i just told myself, "it's ok if i don't have a dream tonight!" (in a very content kind of way)...... that very same night i had my first lucid.

the point is the reality checks and staying aware are definitely important... but don't forget to not put too much pressure on yourself as well.

EDIT: forgot one thing... i wouldn't let myself write the time unless it had been at least 10 minutes since the last RC. you can insert whatever amount of time you want there. hour, two hours, whatever works for you. that was just what i did.

      Good point Fleee.

Just remember, you do this stuff to help you improve a skill and if it takes a month, so what? There are twelve of em in a year. If it takes a while, it makes it all the more satisfying when you get it!

Interesting - it didn't take me long at all to achieve my first real lucid after joining this site, which suggests a few things:

      1) Diet makes a difference
      2) Different brains take different amounts of time to achieve a lucid dream
      3) Your sleeping hours makes a difference to the likelyhood of having a lucid dream.

I think number 2 is the most likely one.
This is food for thought indeed.

Yeah, theres always a barrier in the beginning that you have to break through. After that, the LDs will roll in. Keep RC:ing regularly and your soon gonna succeed.

Thinking too hard and stressing out about it makes it a lot harder to attain lucidity in my experience.

It took 3 1/2 weeks but last night I did a RC in a dream! Also I didn't wake up instantly, more like after 10 seconds =D

Congrats! Also, never doubt the power of the WBTB WILD, it is probably the single easiest most reliable way to go straight into an LD, at least in my experience. It really is just as simple as counting while falling asleep!

It took me a week of dream journaling and reality checking to have a lucid dream. But after that I didn't have any more for a while so I stopped reality checking and stuff. 3 weeks or so after the 1st one I had another LD, which really got me back into obssessing over LDs. But basically my dream awareness has spiked since doing this reading and reality checking, it's just a matter of time before you have one. Last night I had a bunch of dreams where we are talking about lucid dreaming. That was annoying because I didnt RC once. I also used the CAN-WILD and didnt hear the alarms in my dreams. but i'll get it right eventually. keep at it.

Draxis do you get sleep paralysis before you go into your WILD?
