      Relax, Just Do It...

I've heard a lot of people getting into a relaxed, deeply-relaxed or meditative-like relaxation before going to sleep and trying to lucid dream. Someone mentioned something about tensing each muscle and then letting it go loose... not sure. Anyway, I'm just wondering what everyone's method of "relaxation" is before trying to sleep/LD. I tried just lying on my back and thinking to myself "Okay, bud, relax!" but didn't have much luck with it. As a result, I'd love some suggestions!

      Thanks!

Personally, I stole this from various self hypnosis things, and fight club, lol. I lie there, start by controlling my breathing, try to getit rhythmic, then I visualize any stress in my body, and as waves, it leaving through the crown of my head, repeat till it feels good, and thenvisualize whatever setting is relaxing, perhaps visualize myself walking towards a "place" where sleep is.
      Just now delving into LD.

I found the Hemi-Sync lucid dreaming series to be great for relaxing by the end I got to be so relaxed my body was literally dead weight. I got it on MP3 and put it on my MP3 player for when I go to bed. I don't use it much any more I'm trying other things right now and am not using it but I liked it. The music includes some sort of tones that are supposed to help create certain brainwaves.
Just because you aren't paranoid. Don't mean they're not after you.

This seems to work pretty well for me. I find that even when I think I've relaxed completely, I'm often still unconsciously tensing some muscles, usually in my face. This method helps get over that by making you consciously relax every muscle.

The hardest part for me is getting my mind to slow down, and only focus on going to sleep, lucid dreaming, and dream recall.
