      Close to first Lucid Dream?

Was I close to my first lucid dream?

in my first dream I was getting my exam back from my teacher which I knew was impossible because my teachers never give back our exams. Anyways on the exams had -12, -14, -16, and -18 but no actual grade on them. She told us to do the math ourselves and subtract from 100 and so I did. I was able to read the numbers and do basic math in my head (100-12 = 88) but then I shifted into another dream.

If I was able to do math was the logical side of my brain awake?

I took some Vitamin B6 and ate a banana before sleeping so maybe this triggered it.

In a lucid dream, can you see very clearly like you were actually awake or is it somewhat blurry?

They can be either! Sometimes you can have dreams that are murky and unclear, other times as vivid and so full of clarity that, if not for the situations, they could be indistinguishable from real life. That said, whether the dream is blurry or clear does not play into what is classified as a Lucid Dream, only whether or not you are aware that its a dream.

B6 has been known to increase Dream vividness. It metabolizes the Tryptophan and 5-HTP into Seratonin, a heavy player in emotions, moods and dreams. Bananas also contain B6.

What you do in your dreams can be completely arbitrary many times. Even decisions that seem logical or carefully calculated can be based off irrational concepts. Situations like "I need to get to the center of the earth to stop the cows from falling off the mountain because my dad lost his car keys." are not unusual (I know this because I actually had this dream once, and it made sense; at the time, of course).

So, all that said, the real question here in determining how close you were, how did you feel in the dream? Mentally at that. Was their any sense of awareness creeping on you? Any nagging feeling of something just not being right?

No sense of awareness and no nagging feeling or anything not being right. Everything felt like it was in place. In that dream earlier I was telling this man that if the cap of his water bottle sticks to the table then he is lucky. I don't know why I said that or how I came up with that but it just felt you know... right. Maybe I wasn't close. I'll try again tonight, any suggestions?

Attempt reality checks from now until you go to bed. Can you think of any common themes between your dreams? If so, try and put yourself into situations over the next few hours involving them or something similar and do regular reality checks. Otherwise, just try a check every 1-2 hours. Basically, think of it as a 'cram for exam' method of developing a reality check habit for tonight.

If you have any food around the house, try snacks like Bananas, Almonds, Turkey, Cheese, Eggs, Milk and Peanut Butter. All in small portions, of course. Take them around the same time before bed as you did the other banana and B6. For example, maybe a light snack of a Turkey and Cheese sandwich, a Banana and a glass of milk.

Finally, keep dreaming on your mind as you drift asleep. Intend to be lucid.

Report back tomorrow and we'll see what more we can do

Unfortunately that doesn't really sound close to a lucid dream to me. But don't worry, they are not hard to have with a little effort. The most important thing is doing reality checks as often as you remember. If you do this enough you are bound to do it once you are in the dream and then you can become lucid.

In terms of lucid dreams being clear or blurry they can be either. Usually they are more vivid and colorful than normal dreams but not always.

But I have no control in my dreams. Like I can't move my hands, they are moving for me. It's like a movie where there's a girl checking the closet for the source of the strange noise but you know the killer is in there and you can't do anything but watch. Does the constant reality check eventually happen in dreams where you have no control?

      That's the idea.

Regardless of whether you have conscious control, you're not an entirely different person in your dreams. Its still you, your mind, your thoughts and your habits. And that last one is the key. Making RCing like a habit, similar to biting your nails. The idea is that you'll unconsciously repeat it in your dream and come to awareness, or that you'll think about it or draw some relation to it in your dream and try it.

Ok so for my first dream of the night I was in front of a strangely colored castle. It was similar to the ones I make in a program called Bryce. Since all models in Bryce never look realistic I somehow made the connection that I was in a dream. I didn't have much control but the castle turned gold and at that point I yelled out that it was a dream and felt like real excited . I looked at my hands as a RC and I woke up at around 4 am. I got a glass of milk, browsed the forum for awhile until I got tired.

I went to bed and I got another dream where I was in this haunted mansion. The ghost/witch/spirit killed all my friends but I escaped. We were lured into the house because it was for sale so I took all the brochures hoping that no one would enter it but every time I turned around more brochures would appear. I decided that I needed to face the witch/spirit/ghost/demon. I geared myself up with a flail, kevlar vest, and some kind of spartan helmet. I had this battle and for some reason I wasn't scared. I had like super agility so the witch couldn't touch me. Finally the witch/ghost knew that she couldn't defeat me because she was a ghost and so she became real and grabbed me from behind. I used to take Brazilian Ju Jitsu (irl) so I elbowed her like 10 times in the ribs, turned around and smashed my flail into her and that is when I woke up.

It was a great dream, I wasn't scared. It was one of those moments where you could bet your life that you could defeat someone. The agility was AMAZING. OMG I could do these cool tricks in the air and it was AWESOME.

Anyways that's what happened last night.

      EDIT:

I just saw a common theme in all my dreams!

      Dreams I've Recorded:
      1) Walking through my school and late for my exams - Location: At my school
      2) On a sinking boat packing my bag - Item: Bookbag which I pack everyday for school
      3) Watching Achilles and Prince Hector walking - Theme: Greek Mythology which I learned in school
      4) My teacher handing back our exams - Location: At school
      5) Oddly colored castle from Bryce - Theme: Bryce is a program which I used in school
      6) Battle against the witch/ghost/spirit/demon - Location: In the lunch room of my school

      EXCELLENT work! And awesome dreams!

Now that you've found a recurring theme in your dreams, its time to use it to encourage lucidity.

So now, anytime you're at school, doing something for school, or utilizing something in relation to school (such as using this program or holding this bag), do a reality check. Check your surroundings, mentally note as many details as you can from all 5 senses, ask yourself if what you're seeing is a dream or real, and attempt to do things like trying to breathe with your nose plugged or trying to poke your finger through your palm.

Encouraging Reality Checks around these events will encourage you to do them in dreams. The idea is that your common theme will manifest and you'll do a reality check and come to the conclusion you're dreaming.

I had a dream that I was doing a math problem in school and after that I blacked out for the rest of the night
I ate a bacon and cheese sandwich, drank a glass of milk, and had some fancy cheese and crackers as well as some B6 before falling asleep. I don't know what happened but I think everything I prepped for just disappeared from my mind.

Unfortunately school is over. Is there anything I can do to compensate for that? I am doing reality checks every hour (Looking hands/clocks/pinching nose/poking palms). Mantas seem to never work but I do them occasionally before I sleep.

Is the school nearby? Perhaps you could take regular walks past it. Do you still have the book bag lying around? Do a check every time you see it. Even just doing a check whenever you think about something related to school can help.

Hourly reality checks are, otherwise, an awesome start
