      length of time before lucids

I've read a variety of different techniques for inducing LDs, and many mention sleeping for ~6 hours, waking, then going back to sleep before actually experiencing a state of lucidity. I'm curious if this is common for everyone... if there anyone has figured out any precise timeframes (is 6 hours acurate, how long to stay awake before going back to bed, etc.), or if anyone can simply lie down initally without this repetitious sleep/wake/sleep technique.

Well, that technique actually makes it about 10 times easier. For lucid dreaming, the only thing I would say is to get at least 8 hours of sleep, and really want it to happen.

There are also other ways, though meditation, where you can become completely lucid. In lucid dreams, you are generally not so conscious. This is why when sleeping for 6 hours, waking, then going to sleep and becoming lucid is easy. Your body is still fairly tired, and you are also very conscious. This is how I had astral projection once. Now by astral projection, I mean something along the lines of a very very advanced lucid dream. You could call it the top end of lucid dreaming.

There other things that may help. Ginko biloba increases blood pressure to the brain. It will allow you to be more conscious while dreaming, but also cause you to wake up many times in the middle of the night and may give you a mild headache. I try it from time to time.

The most important thing in lucid dreaming is to be able to recognize that you are dreaming. While awake, try to find ways to distinguish between reality and dreaming without just having reality checks. They are too limiting.
Still trying to decide on a sig.
