Okay, I think I figured out what timer I'll be using. I have this alarm with two parts: one on the door and the other part on the frame above the door. When the two parts become out of proximity (a few inches), the alarm sounds. I took it apart and hooked up an LED in place of the alarm speaker. It works great because the alarm noise would pulse, and with the LED hooked up, it also pulses!
Were you planning on using the light like a NovaDreamer mask, in which the light is directly in front of your eye, or were you going to have the light at a distance aimed at your face? That would explain why you want an incandescent bulb instead of an LED.
As far as executing the plan, I think this would be best to use with WBTB, as you would already be in your REM sleep. So, you would sleep for 4 or 5 hours. Wake up and set up this rig, then go back to sleep. I am only hesitant that I will still be awake when the lights start flashing. You mentioned a 5 minute delay. Where could I get a chip to do that?
