First inner body experience in 48 years.

I am not sure if this is a sigh of old age setting in, but the other night I had an inner body experience.

Usually the members on here are aiming for out of body experiences( OOBE ), but this was something entirely different.

      Here goes -
I was sitting in bed, waiting for wife to come up stairs with her usual night time drink.

She came into the room, and made a comment about something. She was looking directly at me, and waited for an answer.
      None came.

Then she said something else, but I could not tell if she was talking to me or not.

A bit like, if the room was full of people, and she came in asking questions, but not looking at anybody.

The thing is, there was only me in the room.

I thought she was talking to my body, while I was looking out of its eyes

I noticed my hand moving, and coming up to my face to scratch my nose. I was not controlling my actions, but witnessing them.

The whole experience only lasted five mins, but was powerful enough to stick clearly in my mind.

I was seperated from my body. but still inside.

Anyone know if I need to phone the people in the white jackets ?
Or is this more common than I think.

I never heard of it, but it does sound like a freaking cool experience!

I wonder if this is related to depersonalization.

Depersonalization disorder - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

They have it down as something bad.

      Symptoms include.

      Asking deep philosophical questions
Thinking about the nature of reality
Feeling like one is not completely occupying the body
Sensing own bodys sensations, like blood flow, etc

On here, I would say these are goals, and not symptoms.
Looks like we all need to book a seat on the bus to the nuthouse.

Depersonalization, which is essentially a form of dissasociation, is typcially a term reseved for serious psychological disorders, such as trauma disorders and various Axis I and II diagnosis with psychotic elements. I think it's better to leave terms like those to the professionals, if you know what I mean

From this side it appears you many have slipped into a waking sleep state, which despite sounding like a contradiction does happen on occasion as well as with narcoleptics. Sleep paralysis sets in, essentially freezing the body, however mentally everythings clicking away on the interior just fine.

As a psychotherapist, however, I'd be more interested in exploring the correlation between these two events, i.e. your wife walking into the room to ask you something and you suddenly freezing up, effectively shutting down any opportunity for a response. So... What would you said if you could have responded to your wife?...

She was just asking me general questions like
Has the alarm been set for morning ?
Are we off shopping in the morning ?

None of the questions were very important, but I did not realise the questions were aimed at me.
The questions seemed to be aimed at my body. I was further inside, looking out.
There was nothing scary about this event, and the whole thing was very interesting at the time

Looking at certain meditation rituals, and practices, the experience I had, is a goal, and not a problem.
Because it was the first time, I have sought more information from this forum.

      TiredPhil:

Fear not, you are not alone.

I read your OP and thought nothing of it. I've just passed the half-century mark myself, and have had that sort of moment on several occasions... a couple just in the last few months. I chose to dismiss the extremely odd moments as symptoms of my dream work, as they tend to occur shortly after particularly deep sessions.

But they could just be a sign of passing years for us "hippie" folk... maybe the outside, physical world just isn't as important us as it once was, and our unconscious mind is accidentally obliging with an inner body experience.

      Or we're both nuts...

I have booked a Greyhound bus with large seating capacity for member on here.
Will be handing out jackets that fasten ( tightly ) around the back.
We all get a warm cosy padded room to ourselves, and an aggressive nurse to look after us.
Seats on a "First come, first served" basis only.
      Any takers ?
