After going through attempts with several dream characters and thought-forms that claimed to be my dream guide, I eventually came to my own realization that any dream character can be my dream guide, or an aspect of myself where I delegate the burden of knowing sense of self and diving into exploration of the mind.
And it's often easy for me to shift them as Anima or even when I used to think of them as astral or spirit guides, but now I'm just seeing them as parts of myself that I want to sublimate whatever desire I want them to express, and knowing aspects of my mind can fill those gaps for me. So for me, I guess I have "two dream guides" to follow within your original post.
To say that "you personally don't have a dream guide as yet" creates implications that dream guides can be objective truths for everyone. The point is, the moment you have faith or wanting the desire to have a dream guide/spirit guide/astral guide/whatever guide, your mind will do its wonders in creating them for you. It's only when you become aware of this is when you see the whole labeling of guides as just symbolism for having an entity in your dreams that can be a conduit for all sorts of thoughts and abilities you have in the totality of your mind.
Here's how the typical endeavor of finding dream guides:
1. Become lucid somehow (or recalling a highly emotional non-lucid dream)
2. Turn around to find a dream character that just happens to appear in this spacious area where there's no one but us and them.
3. We start questioning if they could be their dream guides
4. Yes or No
5. If no, more attempts to find our dream guides until we get to them.
6. We start absorbing their image, gradually feel at ease with their image and how they express themselves
7. We feel warm and fuzzy inside, and depending on our level of stability and competence with the dreaming life, we have an amazing, thought-provoking, and memorable experience with them.
Of course it's not as black and white as that, but usually that's how the experiences are where people don't "feel" they have a personal dream guide until they go through the journey of finding one. Anyone can have a dream guide or whatever if they have faith in one being there, but just know it's true to you and just you, unless in the future there's evidence (beyond anecdotal) that says otherwise.
