      What is power?

In my dream world I am capable of becoming a God or a hero that can save lives, but what is true power other then the human heart? I don't believe myself to be powerful, but some here might believe that from what has happen to me. So the question I ask what is power ?

It might seem funny, but I've always felt if I tried real hard I could pass through certain objects. This is a easy ability in the dream world, but in the real world it is impossible yet what if the dreamer was capable of awakening a hidden ability or hidden strength that allowed it? I believe this might be possible, but as humans we are limited by the fear of reality.

This might not make sense, but I'm challenging my own version of reality by stepping out of the normal. It's a expertiment on myself to see what the human mind is capable of and the human body will allow. I've also had to keep my experiments on myself a secret because most wouldn't understand. You see we live in a reality where the impossible is thought not to exist and anyone or anything that goes against that logic must be crazy.

Even if I find this or achieve the power which I seek I do not wish to control people. Everyone has the strength to evovle or follow their own path. This is important because controlling someone limits the growth of others and I feel personally that is wrong. This is why I enjoy watching others and just observing the life that each leads. Looking beyond the dream might just mean looking beyond the very reality of our lives.

You will need inifinite faith in urself.

I agree with you. Humans are slaves of their own conditions. Take for example.. Consider the 100m race. The time taken to complete the race is decreasing gradually and gradually. It has now reached to a point which was once considered as impossible. Same is the case with every sports.

When a child goes to touch a flame, his parents yell " No..."

He watches TV and movie which further conditions him and puts him in his on shell. He wont accept someone who says it is possible to do the things which he cant do.

I think u have heard the famous story of frog in a well ( by Swami Vivekananda ) " A frog lived in a well. It had lived there for a long time. It was born there and brought up there, and yet was a little, small frog. Of course, the evolutionists were not there then to tell us whether the frog lost its eyes or not, but, for our story's sake, we must take it for granted that it had its eyes, and that it every day cleansed the water of all the worms and bacilli that lived in it with an energy that would do credit to our modern bacteriologists. In this way it went on and became a little sleek and fat. Well, one day another flog that lived in the sea came and fell into the well.

"Where are you form?" "I am from the sea." "The sea! How big is that? Is it as big as my well?" and he took a leap from one side of the well to the other. "My friend," said the frog of the sea, "how do you compare the sea with your little well?" Then the frog took another leap and asked, "Is your sea so big?" "What nonsense you speak, to compare the sea with your well!" "Well, then," said the frog of the well, "nothing can be bigger than my well; there can be nothing bigger than this; this fellow is a liar, so turn him out."

I feel sorry if I deviated from topic..

You should read 'the 48 laws of POWER' by Robert Greene, a best seller, using historical examples throughout mankinds existence, proverbs, and quotes....quite a good, easy read. Although based in quite real terms of power...

heres a list of the 48 laws...
      1.)Never outshine the master
2.)Never put too much trust in friends, learn how to use enemies.
      3.)Conceal your intentions.
      4.)Always say less than necessary
5.)So much depends on reputation- guard it with your life.
      6.)Court attention at all costs
7.)Get others to do the work for you, but always take the credit
8.)Make other people come to you- use bait if necessary
9.)Win through your actions, never through arguement
10.)Infection: Avoid the unhappy and unlucky
11.)Learn to keep people dependant on you
12.)Use selective honesty and generosity to disarm your victim
13.)When asking for help, appeal to people's self-interest, never to their mercy or gratitude
14.)Pose as a friend, work as a spy
      15.)Crush your enemy totally
16.)Use absence to increase respect and honor.
17.)Keep others in suspended terror: cultivate an air of unpredictability
18.)Do not build fortresses to protect yourself- isolation is dangerous
19.)Know who you are dealing with- do not offend the wrong person
      20.)Do not commit to anyone
21.)Play a sucker to catch a sucker- seem dumber than your mark
22.)Use the surrender tactic: transform weakness into power
      23.)Concentrate your forces
      24.)Play the perfect courtier
      25.)Re-create yourself
      26.)Keep your hands clean
27.)Play one people's need to believe to create a cultlike following
      28.)Enter action with boldness
29.)Plan all the way to the end
      30.)Make your accomplishments seem effortless
31.)Control the options: Get others to play with the cards you deal
      32.)Play to peoples fantasies
      33.)Discover each man's thumbscrew
34.)Be royal in your own fashion
      35.)Master the art of timing
36.)Disdain things you cannot have: Ignoring them is the best revenge
      37.)Create compelling spectacles
38.)Think as you like but behave like others
39.)Stir up waters to catch fish
      40.)Despise the free lunch
      41.)Avoid stepping into a great man's shoes
42.)Strike the shepard and the sheep will scatter
43.)Work on the hearts and minds of others
44.)Disarm and infuriate with the mirror effect
45.)Preach the need for change, but never reform too much at once
      46.)Never appear too perfect
47.)Do not go past the mark you aimed for; in victory learn when to stop
      48.)Assume formlessness

Power is knowledge. The more knowledge you have the more power you have. I'm not talking about bookish E = mc^2 type of knowledge. I'm talking of the knowledge of true reality.

A very simple thought - most of us were taught that we can take control of our dreams. I cant say anything definite about my early childhood, I might've dreamt lucidly all the time.
BUT for all I know for the majority of my life the fact that we cant control our dreams was an axiom, it was undeniable and I never questioned it.

Then one day I came upon the idea of lucid dreaming... It was a shock and amazement combined! Ever since I been training myself in the art of lucid dreaming... Without that inital knowledge that it is possible to control the dreams I would've never gained that power....

Now you are talking about the kind of power that you can excercise in the "real" life. I think it exists and there are people working to prove that it exists. Try searching for the "telepathy debate" or something like that. The guy in the debate has some interesting statistical evidence from the telepathy trials. There was also a good topic about human - machine interactions try searching or googling for it.
Both cases show that there IS an interaction, and humans indeed excersise some kind of powers that science cant explain yet. We can only point out that there's something out there. Pretty much people analyzed the evidence and found that the chance of it being a random chance is about 10^-26 ! That simply means that there is something that is interfering with the random chance, but what it is.... well, unknown.

There is an interesting idea, it been discussed here a long time ago. You may be familiar with it. Pretty much it states that the world as we know and perceive it is reinforced or created by our egos/minds/brains/souls/whatever. The point is that one person wont be able to change the world to any visible degree. You wont be able to make that pencil levitate all by yourself. Now, maybe those experiments that calculate the standart deviations and compare it to the random chance distribution are determining this very thing - the impact of one consciousness on the entire world as we know it...

The amount of energy transferred per unit of time.

      The ability to do something.

In both cases, power is facilitated by an interval of time. Being able to do something in some time? That's power! Patience, which is often required to complete something in some interval (especially when the interval is unknown), would then be necessary for power in those instances.

As an aside, the holy books of old were kind of used like encyclopedias and dictionaries are used today, weren't they? That must mean encyclopedias and dictionaries are holy books.

That one jumped out at me right away, SolSkye, and I was about to say, "yeah, okay, right, thanks for the tip, jack... you write a book on that one, too? When I get done with that after about 5 lifetimes, there are 40-something other things, then? Check."

But the sarcasm was getting too heavy, and you've been so civil Skye.

generally speaking power is quite simple.

Power in its simplest definition is the ability to manifest your wishes and intent... of course a lot of the time against the wish of others.

Aye you can say you are the god in your own little reality created by your lucid dream.. an astral pocket so to speak.

But if you are to share this reality with someone else than the one that would prevail and impose his intent and wish to a greater magnitude would be the more powerful one.

Put a system of inheritance, karma, physical laws and 6 bilion souls and you have the earth. Many group entities fighting for their intent to take place and their wishes to manifest. Those that succeed (and their representatives usually as single men) are considered to be more powerful than those that don't.

Once powerful and wise , it is very hard to be brought down and very easy to grow even more, the vast majority of cases that a big power is brought down is only through their arrogance. I.E , them underestimating their enemy and overestimating themselves. THAT in itself is the basic law of gaining AND keeping the power. Realising there is always something greater than you and to always make compromises with the stronger of you.. keep your enemies divided , do not let by any means for them to unite and squash you down... no matter if you are light or dark , there are always enemies and challenges.. at least in this world.

Bluntly said, if you think you are the best its only because you haven't met the one better than you or you are unaware of the fact that two jacks can beat a king so to speak.
