I too feel that dreams are not entirely created by our individual minds. Though I never made the connection between emotional states and dreams as a form of control. This is a very interesting theory. I could see how dreams could be used as a pre-emptive balancing mechanism for affecting emotions in the next day. I'm sure we have all had dreams that changed our emotional state for the rest of the day. Ever heard of "waking up on the wrong side of the bed"?
I believe emotions are transferable through non-physical means. For example, when a freind in a group is very happy and excited they can make the whole group feel better. Similarly, someone with a bad attitude can bring a whole group down. So if you apply that line of thinking to the collective dream consciousness, it begins to make a little more sense.
Assume that when we are dreaming we are connected to the collective consciousness. So dream characters may indeed be real people dreaming half-way across the global. This global broadcast is then localized by our subconscious mind into something our conscious mind could process. The DCs may also be archtypical beings existing solely in the etherreal. So the archtypical group of friends would manifest as your best friends. The idea of a familiar surrounding would be generated as your home town. The language would be translated into the one you know best, presumibly english. Within this shared dream world there are many different experiences that can be seen. Depending on where your mind is at when you go to sleep will dictate where the dream starts. The reason DCs would become angry is because the subconscious mind desprerately doesn't want to loose control of the body. For whatever reason, we have limited control of the vast majority of the workings of our mind. This is not something the subconscious would likely relinquish so easily. This only applies to DC which were created by your mind alone. If other entities were projected into your dream, they might have entirely different motives altogether. I think the most important thing is to look at everything as a lesson to be learned. Whatever the source may be, it is knowledge and it is truth.
