      afterlife

The thread about how you feel about death go me wondering about what people think happens after you die. My personal opinion is that you get reeincarnated as a higher or lesser being depending on how you lived your life, and once you get to the highest living being, you go to something like an afterlife world, that works like a lucid dream where you have full control, except everyone who has reached this plane is there, and you never wake up. Also, I believe that humans are in the middle of the scale of high and low, not at the top as many believe.

I voted for something else, as mine is a combination of heaven and reincarnation, but you can only have four options, so I couldn't have combo as an option.

      What's your opinion?

my guess is something along the lines of your individual consciousness returning to whence it came. im still having a long argument with myself over whether consciousness is a byproduct of neural activity or vice versa.

is awareness contingent on neural circuitry? or not?

i have no definite answer to this question, so it seems useless to postulate anything concerning an afterlife.

still, could awareness be loosely analogous to water?

water is directed, harnessed, and held in cannals, dykes, resevoirs. it is a component in drinking water, weather systems, biology, and flash floods....it can be steam, liquid, or ice.

it can combine with other substances to share in a temporary union, such as when sugar or salt is dissolved into it.

and yet under the right conditions, it is forced to "remember" its true, fundamental nature, and once again returns to a pure state. if the right temperature is reached it rises from a forming bed of salt...

i suspect brain and mind (awareness) are only joined together like a saltwater solution...and death is the boiling point....in that is the case, i have no idea where the steam will rise, or precipitation may eventually fall...perhaps in another world with vessels very much different than a writhing skull...

i believe what u say is true that our neural activity is a byproduct od our consciousness because we are in teh physical world and for every action there is a reaction which would prove god and say that for everythign that he does there is a reaction in our physical world...

The Angel of God once told me that not all will live beyond the Grave. The notion of a universal immortality is relatively recent. The Ancient Greeks had thought that immortality was the primary quality of Divinity -- that only Gods and Heroes were immortal, and that the majority of men would simply die and turn to dust.

Reincarnation is an odd belief. We have life after life at the Biological Level. Spiritually it does not make too much sense to have the redundancy of Spiritual Life after life piled on top of Biological Life after Life. What I suppose happens is that souls pick up on resonance sympathies from prior souls -- a Spiritual Soul provides some gift of memory or some capacity of talent -- as a discreet package -- a memory module or complex. This would make one think, after experiencing some other soul's 1st Person Memory, that this used to be one's self in a former life. but no, it is simpler to suppose that one merely experienced a Memory Tape -- a sympathetic sharing.

One argument for Afterlife is the continued intercession of the Saints. However, some Saints have better traction over time then others. Saint Anthony seems to be going on strong. Saint Philomena, with so many anecdotes from the 18th and 19th Century, seems to have left her office and moved on. I suppose we should allow for Saints to move onward and upward. it is much to expect that they should ever be pulled back to the World.
