      What the heck happened?

I was trying to go to sleep last night. I must have been asleep for 10 to 20 min. Then I am woken up. I feel like there is a presence and there is pressure on my chest. Like somone is getting on top of me. I wake up and scream "HELP!".

My wife contributed it to me trying to have LD's all the time, but I was not doing any induction technique at the time. I have heard of similar experiences called the "Old Hagg Syndrome" but it is usualy attributed to SP. I have had SP in dreams before but this felt different. Just curious if anyone has had experienced this before or any of you know what this is? I dont think I was dreaming it was too early for R.E.M.

If this wasn't Sleep Paralysis, you could have been attacked by a Psychic Vampire. I don't know too much about the subject, but my Sister in Law is attacked by these on almost a Weekly basis. She usually hears a "swooshing pants" noise like someone with corduroy (sp?) pants walks to her bed and then she feels it "lay" on top of her. She cannot scream or move while this is happening, but she is not in a form of Sleep Paralysis. She said that after the attack, she is completely drained of energy. From what I know about Psychic Vampirism, they are either Spirits, Demons, or actual people who can Astrally Project. They seek out and feed off of energy. Usually Negative Energy. My Sister in Law is an extremely unhappy, negative person- not to say that you would be to have this happen to you! They might just feed off of any energy, I just heard that it was negative energy that they feed off of. It's happened to me when I was going through one of my bouts of Depression. I don't know if you are Religious at all, or believe in God, but she started sleeping with the Bible open on her bed when this was happening to her every night, and this seemed to help to "Ward Off" a lot of the attacks. I find that this kind of thing happens to me when I am Spiritually Sensitive, or Spiritually vulnerable. Just thought I'd share. I hope this helps you. Like I said before, I don't know too much about Psychic Vampirism, but I would definitely look it up for more info if you think this might be what happened to you. My Prayers are with you- I don't know if these things are harmful, or just draining, but they are definitely scary!!!

Gasp! Eh WOW! I hope thats not my problem again. I think I sort of opened myself up last night when I was meditiating. I was trying something a little different and got a negative feeling from it. I stopped imediatly but I was feeling pretty funky when I went to bed. Maybe I just spooked myself. I didnt want to mention that ,for fear of sounding like a freak, but I figure that cant top the Psychic Vampire story

As far as the Bible part, I had to do that a while back when I got into ghost hunting and collecting EVP's. Oh and I destroyed all copies of EVP's. It seemed to help. Those ghost were very negative. I was having night frights but never any pressure on my chest. It seems a though I attract negitive energies when I "dabble". I think I better just sheild myself off the next time I meditate and stick to what I know to be safe.

Although I dont have much faith in it any more, I think I might try sleeping my Bible by my bed again.

I will give you some different oppions

Scientific - It could be sleep paralysis, it doesn't always feel the same and could possibly feel like that.

Psychic Vampires - I don't care what religion (If any religion at all) you are, but you should always make sure that you aren't open to attacks by any malevolent beings. Always remember that YOU are stronger so just command the being to leave your home or wherever it is.

Last time I checked those symptoms were associated with attacks by fluffy beasts.

That's definately the old hag, who is just a different type of sp, including hypnapompic hallucination.

Hey, I forgot to mention this before, and this actually makes the "attacker" leave you immediately! I am a Christian, so I believe that Demons are God Fearing and will leave at the mention of Jesus Christ's name. So that's what I did, I yelled as loud as I could muster-Barely a Whisper- JESUS CHRIST, even if you just say it in your head a few times, this being will leave you. Maybe it's a real being attacking you, then again it definitely could be another form of Sleep Paralysis. Maybe when I yelled Jesus Christ, it left me because I was able to wake myself up completely, because at the point when I realized to yell his name, and yelled in my head, maybe all I did was wake up out of the Sleep Paralysis. I still believe in the Supernatural Realm and Astral Projection, so I figure anything at all is possible- but maybe and hopefully this is just Sleep Paralysis. At any rate, you should, as you said "Shield" Yourself when Meditating or doing anything that would open you up to that sort of thing. Another thing I thought of- and sorry to ramble on here, but there was one instance where I was attacked during what felt like Sleep Paralysis, by what I believe to be the Devil himself, and I actually left my body and travelled to other rooms in the house I was staying in. I know in my Heart that this was no Dream, or Hallucination, because there is a reason why this happened, that I really don't want to get into here, so Maybe I was in Sleep Paralysis, but I think that is one of the most vulnerable states to be in, because you're helpless and cannot move. I wouldn't rule out being attacked by something while in a state of Sleep Paralysis.

Nope that's definitely a hallucination. That's happened to me before and I felt like I was sliding off the bed and up the walls, it's not that uncommon during SP.

But I must add, you believe that you, yourself can MORPH INTO A CAT , but you cannot believe that my experience was anything but a Hallucination!!! Hmmm. Anyways, like I said before, I know in my Heart that this was REAL. I was not sliding up walls or anything of the unusual either while going from room to room, not that that would really determine whether or not this is a Hallucination! But since you don't know me and I was only stating my "belief" of what happened, It amazes me how quick one can be to reply "Nope, That's not what happened." I just found the response rude- that's all.

Sounds like night terrors. I had them for about 8 years when they finally stopped. They occur during periods of NREM sleep, almost always within the first hour. Often you will wake up suddenly screaming or running away from something. In my case, I usually thought I was being crushed by a truck and would find myself standing on my bed, using all of my might pushing up on the ceiling to prevent it from crushing me, and screaming my head off. Other times, I would sleep walk around invisible land mines in my room trying to get outside the house until I finally woke up, and sometimes there was a huge spider, or person who wished to harm me. In the worst cases, I would feel my heart stop beating, and would wake up frantically kicking and hitting myself trying to get myself to breathe.

Night terrors are still very mysterious. Usually the dreams are not remembered at all or vaguely, and are much, much more serious than nightmares, as they are for some reason much more terrifying. It is like comparing thorns to swords.

I agree with never. I have had both night terrors and SP. They are definately different.

SP: your body is unable to move - sometimes you get the sinking or floaty feeling, sometimes you feel like you are sliding down the bed, up the walls, etc. sometimes you don't feel anything like that at all, but when you do it is generally your whole body. It occurs more often upon entering a dream.

Night Terrors: This occurs more at the end of a dream/nightmare. Often times is actually a FA nightmare maybe even hallucination. your body is similarly unable to move. You will feel a strong weight on your chest, sometimes it even feels difficult or painful to breathe. Often a nightmare will incorporate this.

Similar to what never described there would be an explosion and a part of a car would land on top of me causing the crushing wieght. I have also had the man on top of me too. night terrors are definately scarier.

Well I dont know guys but this happened to me last night...

I woke up in that same way as I did the other night. This time was different. I was scared but I could not remember why. There was no pressure on my chest just the same fear. I dont know if I was dreaming or what. went to the living room and I guess I looked scared. She said, "What? Did you scare yourself again?" (Grrr, not nice) I said, "NO" and went back to bed.

Anyway I did not know what happened but I was just scared and thought that the same presence was in my room. I tried ignoring it and went back to sleep but I woke up scared again. Then I looked around and put all my energy into this thought. I thought, "NO DAMN YOU! THIS IS MY HOUSE! YOU GET OUT!". Then I imagined a blast of brilliant white light surrounding me and forcing this presence back. I fell back asleep and had no further problems. I dont know if that incedent was in my head or what but I was able to drive it away through force of will.

I guess if it was just night terrors I found a way to stop them

Well now, that actually sounds a bit different; similar to the kind of thing that sleep paralysis causes. The "sensing of a presence" would certainly lead me to believe that it was probably a manifestation of your subconscious, in the astral or otherwise.. Could also be an actual person departed (in either case the white light usually works). Niether is actually dangerous to you, just scares the life out of you. Upon awakening, you were probably in an altered state that allowed for astral perception, or the remains of a dream (same difference) to manifest in wakened consciousness.

Night terrors are actually dangerous for the fact that sleepwalking is sometimes involved, but now it seems that you are in fact "suffering" from something that is quite natural, just not something you are used to. On the other hand, you say you awoke with no idea what made you afraid...THIS is the trademark of night terrors. Sometimes it comes to you, (the dream) but sometimes it doesn't. One thing that is usually the same is the screaming and the sheer terror.

Try not to get to pissed off. That backfired on me once, as negative energy is not really good.

Sounds like typical SP, I used to freak out all the time when I was younger even if nothing was happening. Now I thank God I can induce it.

And for those that brought up Psychic Vampires... They are nothing at all like SP.
PV's are actual people who have the ability of taking another's energy, usually over long periods of time. Some people do it willingly, and others that happen to be naturals at it absorb this energy unaware of it.
