I don't know but it's possible that we do. After all, our minds actively create the entire dream world rather than just translate incoming signals from the senses.

A similar thought I've had was: You know how, supposedly, people once lived like 8 or 10 times longer then we do today? Well, supposed current lifespan = 1/8-1/10 ... supposed current brain usage = 1/8-1/10. I have no idea if that has any relevance or truth whatsoever but, I've been intrigued by the idea for some years now.

We use 100% of our brain. Just consciously use a very amount of it. The other part is what controls our breathing, heart beat, release of chemicals, ect.

Not quite true. Thoughts, and conscious and whatnont represent 10% of our potential brain usage. A large portion of it is represented by involuntary actions that you described, but that is not 90% of the brain. From what I have come to understand, an uncertain percentage of the brain is used when doing these kinds of things. (OBE's, lucid dreams, potentially psychic activity etc.) The reason you hear people say "average humans use only 10% of their brains" it's because average people aren't into new age concepts, and thus don't use the other potential parts of the brain for these sorts of things.

The other problem with that statement ("humans use only 'x' percent of their brains") is that it is not in context. Use 10% of their brains period, or 10% of the potential voluntary part of the brain? So it's hard to say. The statement has morphed overtime and lost its parameters to the point where it is now just a generic statement in space.
