"silver cord"

Good day all, I remember hearing a long time ago about "the silver cord". This was more apparent in astral projection type experiences, and out of body experiences, where the person projecting would see a silver colored cord attaching themselves to either their physical body, or straight up to the heavens. I'd like to learn more about it, the idea kind of intrigued me, and I could not find any more information on it at the time. What purpose did it serve? Was it there just so you felt comfortable leaving your body and being able to find your way back? I am sure this theory is debateable as to whether it actually exists or not, some dont beleive in astral projection or OBE's, but rather like to think of them as a very vivid creation of your own imagination. What intrigues me about it is that there were many people who actually shared the same experience and described the same silver cord attached to them. Ideas?

I had a friend, who called himself Ankou (online) who practiced Astral Projection. He said the silver cord connected your mental self to your physical self. He talked about switching cords with people to become someone else, and cords stretching to far. Sorry, I don't know much besides what he hinted upon, but I hope this helps!

This sounds very familiar to the polar line in "Donnie Darko". The concept is usually that the silver cord is the temporary manifestation of predicted time within a short duration, such as the next few minutes. It is usually thought as though a society of psychoanalysists and a team of oracles (basically the best that man has to offer in prescience) and more with a supernatural intervention in order to predict as further as they can as though life was a mathematical equation at the time. Although, never completely pre-ordained as variables and opinions change. Also, the "silver cord" could represent the spiritual connection to the "heavens above". The reason for this should be obvious in that, as the human body gradually deteriorates and then dies, the spiritual manifestation within the body will then be free of the mortal coil and be "reeled" back into the original source (being God or what have you). ~

A friend of mine practiced astrall projection. It took self hypnosis to be able to do it for him. He said he could go anywhere by just thinking of the place. After many travels thought it would be a good idea to think of "hell". After a couple of seconds in a "darkness like no other" cried out for help, when he did that he felt a tap on his shoulder he looked back and saw his silver chord. It of course led him back to his body, but by his account it could be manipulated to accomplish some pretty cool things. He mentioned applications in teleconises and levitation. Never saw it myself he told me long after I had moved away and I have since lost contact. Mutual friends said he became stranger than usual just before they also lost contact. hope this helps a little it has been my only brush with the fabled "silver chord".

In astral projection, the silver cord (or in some cases white cord) is a link to your physical body wherever it is on Earth on the physical plane. It doesn't do anything, most of the time people don't even notice it. It's sort of like your mind's reassurance that you're still connected to your body, even though in reality you always were. The silver cord only exists in your mind. Some people only see it because they've been told about it. I never saw it until I was told about it. It doesn't lead you back to your body or anything. With astral projection, the instant you decide you want to be back in your body, you're back in your body. The silver cord is basically just subconscious comfort.

its more of an embodiment of your mind communicating to your body, after all it would be horrible for your mind to be out when your body was in danger, its a way for quick retraction of your mind back to your body

You cannot "switch cords" with people. The cord does not exist, it's only in your head. Once again, it's your mind's way of assuring you that you cannot be separated from your body, even though this is true regardless of whether or not the silver cord is present. Many members here, and many people in general think that all new age stuff is magical and anything and everything is possible. That's just not how it works. Finalhope, your friend has quite an imagination
