      Voices in head

So there I was lying in bed, thinking thoughts and starting to drift off to sleep. As I was thinking, I suddenly heard the word "stop". It startled me a little and then I realized it was only from within my head. Almost straight away I completely forgot what I was previously thinking about.

      Anyone heard of anything similar?

Yeah, i'v heard my name being called in the air a few times. Sounded far away but it was as clear as in the room.

That happens to me often, though not exactly as vivid. Sometimes I can hear what sounds like distant conversations and I try to listen to them. It's similar to being in the hypnogogic state except the hallucinations are auditory. One of the most common I think for everyone is hearing someone call your name.

I had the volume on loud too, playing a game. It was like hear it and react 8 seconds later both times (volume high, playing game, react late).

I also hear some noises so went searching then put my ear at the vent and a man and a woman were talking. I know it wasn't outside, you could actually hear the voices downstairs, yet nobody was down there, only up here. Was listening for a while but it was whispering so i couldn't hear a thing but voices talking. I was like 9 at the time. I yelled hello down there but they just kept talking. I was confused, but probably just my brain or something. It was as lucid as ****!

Whenever I'm falling asleep I hear voices. It's nothing to be worried about - it's like HI, except instead of being visual it's auditory. I get it literally minutes from falling asleep.

I've experienced this several times. The most dramatic one (which my wife also experienced) was one summer when we were in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania for a wedding. Gettysburg is the site of one of the worst battles of the Civil War but is also a cute little town and the bride's family was from there. We stayed in a "ski lodge" that belonged to the bride's uncle (it was actually called a ski lodge even though the only "mountain" was a lame 50-foot high hill behind it --- which even had a ski lift!)

Anyway, we went to bed and every time we began to fall asleep we heard howls, screams and cannon fire. Bugles sounding and people yelling things. I thought someone had their TV on too loud. We'd wake up and bang on the wall and tell them to turn the sound down. It would stop every time we woke up, and start again as we drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, we complained to the desk clerk. He said we were the only people in that whole wing of the hotel --- it's a ski resort and not normally open in the summertime. He'd just opened it up as a favor to the bride.

When I looked through the rack of leaflets (points of interest, etc) next to desk, one said the hill behind the hotel was the site of the Battle of Seminary Ridge, where many thousands of Confederate soldiers died. When they built the ski lift, they found many human bones.

I begin to hear random, often nonsensical conversations of various voices just before I start dreaming every time I fall asleep.

Yeah, don't worry, it's completely normal. It's part of hypnogogia (or however you spell that word), not only do you see images, but some people also hear sounds. I usually don't remember what is said, but I remember once someone said "Freud" and a few minutes later the same voice said "that was weird." I hear singing sometimes as well.

In some Native Traditions, that voice is called your "Dream Advisor." It's a Spirit Ally which embodies as a voice only. The first time I had a Lucid Dream, the voice literally woke me up in the dream. It said, in a very firm and clear voice, "Wake up! You'll never get this chance again." That was when I realized that I was dreaming and became fully lucid.

So far, the voice has been right. I haven't had a fully lucid dream since.
