      My experience with FILD

When I was regularly practicing the FILD technique, I had many lucid dreams which were considerably different from a normal dream-induced LD. After reading up on OBEs, I'm starting to wonder what exactly I was experiencing.

      Here's basically how they went:

I would wake up in the morning, perform the FILD tech, and then I would feel my body tingle / fall asleep. Once I reached that stage, I would keep my eyes closed and visualized my room thru my closed eyes. Slowly my room would appear.

And now for the hard part - trying to get out of bed. I would would always try to sit up and climb out of my bed, but there was always this force pulling me back down. With enough effort I was usually able to beat it and could stand up.

After that, I would always notice there was something wrong with my vision ( blurry vision, one eye no working, partial vision, difficulty looking around, plus it was always dark in my room )

Most of the time I would barely make it to the other side of my room when i felt a darkness coming over me - I would try to fight it but eventually everything went black and then I would wake up.

The more i read about OBEs, the more it sounds like what I was experiencing. One thing i realized is that all those times this happened, not once did I turn around and look at my bed. But how would I ever know if they were simply a dream, or were something more?

      Any thoughts?

      no way to know it.
it's up to you to classify it as a peculiar kind of dream or something more mysterious.

be it one or the other, try getting rapidly far from your bed. it seems to help for some.

The famous Hargarts! Your technique has circled the globe many times over!

I only got it to work 1.5 times, myself. But I enjoyed those.

Why don't you just test it somehow? Like open a book at a random page or something, so you can't see it, then check it after you FILD.

Did you quit practicing the technique because the dreams were mostly that kind? I have found that there are times when more body awareness is present than in the usual DILD, and can sometimes be inhibitory. Maybe that was the case with FILD, altho it certainly does seem to be a popular technique.

My body walking? Now that I think of it, I never paid much attention to my body. If I wanted to move across the room, I would just move across the room. However, there were times where it was difficult to move.. If I was close to my bed It would start pulling me down again. Probably about 90% of my focus was on my head/vision.

Yes, the majority of them where how I described it. (However, practicing the method led to many DILDs)

I actually got the method to work last night, but I didn't get too far.

I believe I had woken up for a second while trying to fall to sleep, and i remembered to do the finger motion. Within about 1-2 seconds I felt my body fall asleep. After that point I lost all perception of everything around me and felt as if I was laying in a different direction. Then, I remember seeing my wall thru my closed eyes. However, I got too excited and I woke up.

I have to say.. feeling you body fall asleep has gotta be one of the greatest feelings.

No, I meant awareness of your real body, not your dream body.

When I am too aware of my real body, it interferes with my dream, and I thought that's what you were describing. The physical awareness messes up the dream--that's what it sounds like when you say you get pulled back down.
