how often do you remember ?

i originally posted this back on July 6th at another board. sadly, it received no replies.

      ===============================================

I don't know if this is normal or not, but for the last two nights I have been awakening on average every two or three hours, and after every awakening I remember exactly what happened in each dream.

I can usually remember bits and pieces of one or two dreams per week, but over the last two nights I can recall bits and pieces of minimum a half-dozen shorter dreams, about 2/3 of which occurred last night (Tuesday night).

During my regular dreams I usually have an uncanny knack for remembering specific DATES, NUMBERS and MEASUREMENTS. These dreams featured very few numbers other than which floor of a building things were located on in one dream.

Also, in one dream I can recall specifically being a member of the opposite sex while walking through a room; for a period of at most 30 seconds. This is bizarre, since this is the FIRST instance I can recall ever dreaming of being a woman!

Here are little snippits of those I have the best recollections of:

      1) This was last night's first dream. I remember moving into a new building, almost like a residence for university students. I recall walking in thinking it looked more like some sort of empty classroom, as it had a metal door (like in our schools) to a concrete patio outside. I remember a friend of mine and one of her femal friends (haven't seen either in a year) knocking on that door to come it. The room number was 314.

      2)
This was I believe the second or third dream last night, as it incorporated ONE key fact from the night's first dream.
During that dream, my room (314) was on the third floor of a building.

I recall wheeling into the elevator on ground floor in a wheelchair. I walked out onto the third floor into what appeared to be another room filled with girls my age (early 20s).
I turned around thinking "sh*t! i left half my stuff (on the wheelchair) in the elevator!" and for some reason recall it heading up to the 20th floor.

I recall some of the girls talking to me, and I told them my room was on the thrid floor, but I didn't recognize the room where I exited the elevator. I remember one particularily attractive redhead walking over, rubbing me and trying to seduce me. I remember telling her she could come to my room once I found it. To that she responded, "Oh, nobody leaves this room!"
Confused, I questioned why, then her voice changed into a spooky demonic voice and said I was in some lair of the dead; not sure of the exact wording, but something to that extent.

I remember saying "f*ck this", leapt out a window and began running through a grass courtyard. No fall from the third story window or anything- just straight out onto the grass.
She then followed me out, and started falling behind.
She then pulled out a gun and took two or three shots at me.
I distinctly remember the first one missing.

Now here is the STRANGEST part of any of these dreams:
While being shot at I recall thinking "Okay, if I die in this dream (acknowledging it WAS a dream in during the dream), then I will awaken, fall back asleep and dream about something less traumatizing."
The next shot hit me and I fell to the ground. However, I knew that I willed for this shot to take me down so that I could escape this fantasy gone awry and transport myself somewhere better.

      3) (BEWARE- THIS ONE IS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT!!!)
This was either the dream after being shot at, or the second one after.

      I recall talking with a woman; a stunningly beautiful italian/mediterranean black-haired girl.

I forget what happened next, but next thing I remember, she was naked on a bed in the centre of a room. I recall fondling and kissing her breasts and nipples, and fingering her genetalia. When it came time to insert my genitals into hers I awoke again.

I appologize for the length of this post; there are more topics I wish to cover, but will appear as new posts here.

      Thanks,

      /c

      Hi Chief

I can think of a few reasons for this. Firstly being the obvious length of the post, as you acknowledged. Secondly being that its kind of hard to know exactly what kind questions you have on these dreams.
I'll try commenting on each thing as best I understand the direction you intended...

Well its something that can be induced, and even practiced. And it sure helps for dream recall. But unfortunately it normally sucks for getting a good nights sleep
You should consider something natural like Melatonin to clean up your sleep cycles if you find it persisting

Regarding this... A small minority of people have a knack for reading well in a dream. I'm one of them too.
If you pair this with waking so soon after each dream, and generally good recall, then it's hardly suprising you can remember numbers and dates.
Esp if they are important to you (as they seem to be)

Also, in one dream I can recall specifically being a member of the opposite sex while walking through a room; for a period of at most 30 seconds. This is bizarre, since this is the FIRST instance I can recall ever dreaming of being a woman! [/b]
This isn't all that unusual. I've done it in a lucid dream myself. However you didnt choose to have the transformation. If you're asking what the meaning of that might be... it depends on your personal views on gender, and what being a woman would mean for you. Dream interpretation is always a subjective thing and not really my arena of knowledge.

The room number was 314. [/b]
Are you wondering if it has special meaning? Perhaps, but perhaps only for you. Once again, possibly subjective. Someone else can have a bash at this if they can think of anything.

To that she responded, \"Oh, nobody leaves this room!\"
Confused, I questioned why, then her voice changed into a spooky demonic voice and said I was in some lair of the dead; not sure of the exact wording, but something to that extent.[/b]
I've also had dream characters (DC's) giving me lip.
In my case, my own subconscious. Not very pleasant and in fact it gave me problems with my LD's for a while.
Sometimes it indicates some sort of deep seated fear or negativity. Hard to say for sure. Once again, subjective and the realm of interpretation. The best interpreter is always going to be yourself.

Now here is the STRANGEST part of any of these dreams:

Í'm not sure which part of this you consider strange. I've done this myself as a child in a nightmare. Give up to the forces of the nightmare so that it can be over. (I was mildly lucid)
I no longer do that though - I usually rather choose to kick nightmare arse

When it came time to insert my genitals into hers I awoke again.[/b]
Could have been because of the level of emotion/excitement. Some people tend to have this problem it seems.
Or it could just have been that habit of waking so often in your sleep.

Did I miss the real questions? if so, can you try rephrasing them so we can answer ?

Well, about 314. I have two ideas however I doubt one's very good. Are you a decent at math? If so pie (3.14) be my guess.

Those things you experienced are normal.

I myself used to wake up after every dream , even after taking 6 mg of melatonin. This is really cool ability.

The rest are just dreams, I presume :/ Anything is possible, and bizzare dreams do happen.

      good point- thank you.

      you're telling me!

for the last two weeks i have been consistently awakening at least once, usually several hours before i intend to awaken.

last night was my first good 9-hour sleep in approximately two weeks.

i have read about people taking melatonin in various posts here.
i had better read more about it before attempting this to be safe.

dates and numbers in general are important to me in waking life, where i can usually recall various dates and numbers with relative ease.

i have no idea what the dates in the dreams signify, since not all the dates are in the future. for instance, i have had dreams where i can recall the date being two weeks previous.

i have tried associating these numbers and figures with numberology before, and it did work somewhat adequately.

correct, the transformation just happened for all of 10 seconds; enough time to walk throught one room.

w/r/t dreams being subjective, i always liken it to the language of dreams being universal except we each speak our own dialect.
i know that certain images, dates, and words means different things to me specifically because of my experiences and environment in the waking world.

Are you wondering if it has special meaning? Perhaps, but perhaps only for you. Once again, possibly subjective. Someone else can have a bash at this if they can think of anything. [/b]
indeed i constantly ponder the meaning, if any, of these numbers and dates. i figure my mind retains these values for some reason.

LDGuy proposed the mathematical value of pi and the significance of maths in my life. for what its worth, i won several mathematics contests in highschool.

for all i know, pi could signify a 180-degree turn in something, since 180-degrees is equal to pi radians.
perhaps a switch in relation to something else in the dream- either academics or residnce (hence the university residence) or luck with the ladies (hence being the only male in the dream... and being a woman for part)

I've also had dream characters (DC's) giving me lip.

i know for a fact that i would not have protested a room of women wanting me to stay in RL... or at the very least have asked on to follow me to my room and in tracking down the remainder of my stuff.

as for the significance of this, i have no idea.

i recall my thought process being that if this is a direct hit (or however it was termed in my response in another thread), then i will be somewhere better in a matter of minutes without being harmed.

mind you, turning my LDs into my very own action movies would be entertaining. next time...

when i awoke it was more "dammit! i missed the best part!"
excitement could have played a role... i'm not afraid to admit that much!

perhaps it could be that i was awakening often throughout the night. who knows... next time not only will i kick somebody's ass, but i will get the girl as well!
