dreamt my dad died a week before it happened

when i was in my senior year of high school my dad died of a sudden heart attack. a week or two before he died i did have a dream about it but i just couldnt recognize it until after i got to the rosary we had for him. In my dream im standing in this room towards the entrance of the building where we had the rosary. i remember sad music and was wondering what the occasion was. I walked forward a little bit and end up turning around only to see a friend of my dads who i didnt know. His name was Tim. He starts talking to me and asking me questions and right as im about to ask who this is for i wake up. Not understanding the dream i didnt really pay too much attention to it at all. Well as i said my dad died a couple weeks later and i go to his rosary. At first i walk into the building and didnt recognize it, but as soon as i started walked forward and turned around i saw Tim. Then i got that deja vu feeling and was like holy shit! We even talked about the same stuff as in my dream. This bothers me that i had a dream about this because i always play the what if in my head like what if i was able to find out whose rosary it was and was able to save my dads life? So thats the strongest psychic dream that i have had out of the 2 ive had.

Welcome to DreamViews, LoneTango. I'm sorry for your loss.

It could be that you sensed that your Dad wasn't doing well. However, you shouldn't let it bother you or feel guilty about it. You couldn't have done anything to prevent a heart attack.

Yes, that is very weird. My dad also died of a heart attack when I was 11 and he had no signs of heart problems. I am sorry for your loss and stuff like this happens sometimes and it just can't be explained.

      Indeed, sorry for your loss.

But to be honest, I think it's just coincidence. I mean, who dosn't die in dreams?
And as Moonbeam said, you couldn't have done anything to save him.
You did what you could, anyways. No-one would ever expect you to react on the dream.

And since you say it's a week or two before... Are you sure that it wasn't just a deja vu?

Sorry for the loss. But I too have had complete Deja Vu's. I mean this would surely make you believe in only just reality.

maeni, i can see how u would think it was a coincidence but how would i have recognized Tim and talked to him about the same stuff? Plus deja vu in french means to see again so i have to see something first and something has to be so similar to it so it gets that weird deja vu feeling

Yes, the thing with Tim is strange...

But the deja vu thing, I've experienced what I think is 'a deja vu' before. And I can still remember it crystal clear. My family was at a pool on a trip to some hot country. And I saw a bird fly over a chair and land in the grass on the other side. I went all like "Omg, a bird just landed right there!" and my dad answered "Oh, probably just a little eagle."
And I almost knew I had dreamt that a few days/weeks ago.

But from what I've heard a deja vu is, it's a situation where the brain dosn't recognize that it has thought about something yet, and therefor sends the information through a second time. This creates that illusion that one have already experienced that same situation before. (can't give a reliable source for that, since it's something I've learned through people.) You might want to see wikipedia for it.

So I still don't think you have done anything you could have done better, / haven't done anything you should. Ofcourse it's sad, but that's really nobody's fault.

Sorry for your loss, but from my own experiences with Deja Vu dreams(dream precog) there really was nothing you could have done about it. I have had dreams in almost the exact same manner since early childhood, my first being in the second grade, and I have found that even when I discovered Lucid Dreaming, I could be aware that I was dreaming, but in deja vu dreams, I could never take control.

As for the idea of the brain short circuiting; I can't speak for everyone, but I have had experiences, like meeting my sister's room mate for the first time, where I recorded the dream in my dream journal 16 days before the event took place.

It might be possible that whatever is the cause of dreams like this doesn't let you know the whole story in case you try and alter what happens. For example, on more than one occasion, it has "clicked" that I was experiencing the real side of deja vu halfway through the event; I knew what was going to happen in the next thirty seconds or so, but have been in a state of shock to the point that I couldn't say or do anything that wasn't a part of the dreamt time line.

I'm not suggesting anything otherworldly or divine(it may just be some abstract property of time itself), but those events have always struck me as odd.

I can understand if there are skeptics out there, but I can only speak from my own experiences.
      Live for the day.

Oh, you had recorded the dream before it happened? Cool, has it happened to you that you have recorded a deja vu dream that happened later, in the EXACT same way as your dream?

But I'll try to explain my view on deja vu's again, since I experience them ALOT

That's something I experience alot too, and again I still think it's the brain fiddling with me.

      First, the event happens.
The event goes through your brain,
Your brain dosn't 'get it', so it sends it back
Your brain reads the even again.
Now the brain has TWO of the same events
"What the hell? What do I do with this one?"
"Ah, the second one was probably from a dream some days or weeks ago,
since I can't find anywhere else it fits."
However, the event is still happening, and it keeps going through the brain like a long thread, and since the brain has already doubled some of it, it might feel the need to do it to the next bits too.

That's from the brains 'point of view'
I'll try to explain it like a person in the same event.

You see something, and quickly realize "Hey, I've seen this before"
You get the feeling that you know what's going to happen in the 'near future'. (30 seconds or so, but you don't know that before it's over.)
After the brain finally sorts out the problems, you will be left in the feeling of having dreamt the event one or two weeks before.

With the part of you having journaled a dream and it then happening, I really find that interesting!

I'm going to leave this thread now, as I'm getting the feeling I'm hijacking it, since it's also a very touchy thread to be raising fingers in. So I'm just going to say that it's understandable you have the "what if?" thoughts, I'd have those too, and I think everyone would, but I really don't think you had been able to predict it. If you had, then whoever gave you the visions chose a hellova bad way to show you. It's not like people generally think that their dreams are going to happen.

Once again sorry for your loss
