Could I have ESP (in dreams)?

Okay I have had instances where sometimes I can predict what someone is going to say, either in real life or on TV (yes, on shows I've never watched before). Or sometimes I swear I can just think about something and the next thing I know, I see it sometime later that day. Now its weird but I can't think to myself "Oh, I'm going to see this later today." More or less it comes to me as a casual thought, sometimes when I'm daydreaming (something I used to do a lot). One time I remember I was on the road with my grandmother, and I was thinking about a Garfield comic I had read one time. Don't know why I was thinking about it. It was a comic where Jon was giving a Garfield a sweater that said "Wide Load". At that point I remember thinking "Huh, haven't seen any trucks like that on the road recently." Well guess what? Later that day I saw, not one, but two trucks that had the yellow "Wide Load" flag on them. I've had other instances too, but the most vivid ones are in my dreams.

I think one of the closest instances I have had of this was when one night I had a dream about seeing these three big snakes (all were different colors, if that meant anything) in my backyard. I clearly remember standing out on the deck and watching one of them lash out at me.

Now here's where things get interesting.

On that exact same day, my Dad told me the geese were out in the back. I was upstairs, looked out the window and saw them. So I ran downstairs and was going out on the deck to scare them away (we don't like them crapping all over our backyard). I ran out on the deck, but strangely the geese were already in the pond (there's a big community pond in our backyard). Now when I had looked out the upstairs window, they were all in the yard and it only took me like 5 seconds to get out to the deck. What made them get to the water so quickly? I walked out on the deck, then I looked down and saw the answer. A big black snake was crawling around.

Freaky, huh? Ever since then, along with the other incidents, I've wondered if I could possibly have ESP of some kind. The reason I'm asking is because of an incident I just had TODAY.

Well me and my Dad were supposed to be out of here early today but we both slept like 3 hours later than we should have. Anyway I kinda had dreams on and off. In one dream I remember the day I picked up these first aid books from a college bookstore. On the way out, I saw an interesting "Learn CPR" device on one of the shelves.
In another dream, my basement was supposed to be the sick bay for Voyager (Star Trek). I remember Tuvok was in sick bay for some reason when he somehow just fainted. Not sure where the Doctor was. I was there and so was Kes. We were the only ones that could help him. We quickly got into some basic surgery gowns and gloves and had to perform an operation. I remember having to jump back and forth for supplies but finally we were able to save him. But then we discovered he had no circulation and wasn't breathing. We had to perform an advanced CPR technique on him, but in the end it brought him back.

Okay, so I probably left out some details, but hopefully nothing that was overly important. Later that day, when we finally did get going, I ended up stuck waiting in the car for my Dad to get done with some paperwork. While I was waiting, my grandmother had called me and we were talking back and forth. Sometime during our conversation a police car parked in the spot next to me and a cop got out. Nothing unusual. Then I heard and saw this firetruck out on the highway, lights on, sirens blaring. Still nothing unusual. But I was surprised to see it stop and turn in where we were. Even worse, it stopped right behind our car. Four firefighters piled out and headed for the building in front of me. Then another cop car took the spot in front of me. I was keeping my grandmother informed of everything. Finally she had to hang up because another line was ringing back at the house. The moment she did, then two ambulances showed up. A firefighter even grabbed a stretcher from the truck. I finally saw the ambulance workers carry someone out on the stretcher. Dad finally showed up (he was in the building behind me, so even he didn't know what was going on) and we watched for awhile. There wasn't much we could do anyway. We couldn't leave because we were blocked in. We went and talked with some of the other people there who were watching. They said some woman had just fallen unconcious inside, heart attack.

One other note I want to add. If me and my Dad had left early like we had planned, there's a chance that I would not have had those dreams. Then we would have been in and out of that office before the emergency even occured. Therefore I woulnd not have had any ESP incident, right?

It seems like I've had far too many of these incidences to be coincidence. Well, what everyone else's opinion? Could I possibly have ESP, or is this just some big cosmic coincidence? Just what is it?

      yah

Actually this sort of thing happens to me ALOT!!!
(but not in dreams....more just thinking of something)
I also have really good timing.
I have never once came home to an empty
house. I always catch my parenst b4 they leave!!!
      lol

I personally believe that things like ESP are things
that aren't magic or anything but some scienece we
just don't know quite yet. We all probably have it.
But it's like riding a bike...some are very good at it
      others fall on their butts

Don't jump right to psyhic things because you can't think of an scientific explanation yet. Now, I know of many people that experience the same sort of thing as this. People on television - yes, I watched a show about "psyhics" one day - my brother, and many other people.

If these things had happened almost immediately after you had thought of them - say, you thought "Haven't seen a wide load truck for a while", and then a few seconds later, it appears, I wouldn't be as skeptical. If you look at your past, you can easily create what could be "precognitive experiences" or "seeing into the future", you just have to look hard enough. An example would be:

      The Phone

Benny: Mum hasn't phoned for a while...

Meanwhile (although not at the same time)

Mom: I haven't phoned Benny for a while.

      So, a few hours/minutes/seconds later:

      Mom phones Benny.
Benny (thinking): That's probably mom because she hasn't phoned recently.
      Benny: That'll probably be mom.

      And then:

Benny: Wow. That was weird, I knew who it was. Maybe i'm psyhic.
Benny looks harder for these occurences more often.

And as he looks harder, he spots apparent "seeing into the future" events, so he looks even harder, and before long he can build up a very big repeitore of events, and he'll link many more of them to being psyhic in the future, when it can, as illustrated above with the "Phone" technique, be simple probability (Mom hasn't phoned for 7 days, today is her day she isn't at bingo, so it will probably be her phoning me), etc.

      fewjifjwieo the end.

First of all I can explain the Garfield and Snake situations with coincidences, mostly since as you say they only happen "sometimes" as opposed to cosistently. Every single person on earth has similar eerie experiences which at first seem like they couldn't be coincidences. Thing is, we live tens of thousands of days in our lives, in each of which countless thoughts and dreams pass through our minds. Also, in each of those days we see and experience countless things, so of course every once in a while the thoughts in our minds and occurances in our daily lives will match up in strange ways. It's like winning the lotto... when you win, you think "The chance is so tiny.... it must be a sign from the heavens" or something like that, but then you have to think about all the people who didn't win the lotto (think of those people as the moments in your life when eerie situations didn't happen), and realize you just got lucky this time.

For guessing what people are going to say, well, it's just human nature to try to predict things before they happen, and it does this all the time. I sometimes guess what someone will say before they say it too. But what about all the countless times you predicted what they would say incorrectly? It's really just lucky guessing.

Most importantly, you're much more likely to remember when you guessed things correctly than incorrectly (because it's more interesting, and happens much less often). Same goes for coincidences: when one happens, you think "wow", but what about all the other moments in your life when there was a potential for a coincidence to happen, but it didn't? Maybe we should instead look at all those unlucky times as evidence that we AREN'T psychic instead of the other way around....

I must admit, I agree with Kaniaz and Stevehattan. It's natural for us to look for patterns and connections. This tendency makes coincidental occurances stand out in our minds. I can remember many instances similar to those you describe, Taron. However, I do my best not to call them "psychic", because it's more likely that they're simply chance occurances.

I have only experienced one dream that I felt was truely pre-cognitive (or possibly telepathic) in my life (and I'm pretty old too! ). I dreamed of a house I had never been to before. About two weeks after this dream, I visited some people who lived in this house. They had a very messy kitchen on the upper level of a split level house. There was a bannister and some stairs going down behind this kitchen, leading to a lower level. There was a den on the lower level, but it was being used for storage. There was a couch, a motorcycle, and a large fan, among other things in this lower level. It was a unique layout, with unique details.

When I first walked into the kitchen, a cold chill ran down my spine. The images that were before my eyes were exactly the same images I had seen in my dream. I still have no rational explanation for that instance of deja vu. It could have been coincidence, I suppose, but the odds are so phenomonally against having such an exact image in my mind - I just can't imagine there being anything other than "external" factors that could have caused this.

Even so, that was only one time, and while it was a very striking instance of a potentially "psychic" occurance, what value or meaning could it really have? Unless we percieve such exact occurances on a fairly regular basis, how can we ever say we're psychic.

I think I picked this link up in another part of these forums. http://www.randi.org/research/index.html You might want to check it out...

I know in the past i will see something, or hear something. I will think to myself that i have seen or heard that somewhere and can sometimes connect it back to a recent dream. Now i could possibley just be thinking that this happened in my dream, or its just a small detail i can conenct together or so forth. Of course, maybe i do see the furture in my dreams.
