      Unhappy Apnea during an O.B.E.

Ive had many sucessful O.B.E.'s throughout my life, all of them occuring during sleeep paralysis, however the ones Ive had recently have been very un uncomfortable as my physical body stops breathing.

I dont usually experience sleep apnea too often but for some reason they seem to occur during the O.B.E., I find that just after I begin to exit my body whilst Im still floating around in my bedroom I get an odd sense that my physical body is under some sort of stress like its being suffocted, I am very comfortable in my OBE spirit body and feel that I can continue to just stay there however I feel that if I dont attend to the threat Im sensing from my physical body I could end up dying so I shake my self back to a waking state to find that I have infact stopped breathing and soon as I enter back into my body I find myself choking and gasping for air as if id been under water too long without oxygen.

If infact I hadn't stopped breathing than it would not be physically possible for me to be able inhale such a large breath of air inwards, along with the fact that I do it in a gasping manner as soon as my eyes open. These apnea type incidences have me worried and it has happened the last 3 times upon having an OBE. It ruins the OBE experience as I have to cut it short to attend back to my physical bodies apnea response, any ideas about this?

      Hey Fuzzy,

A few things that you could do, most obvious is, dont OBE anymore, but I guess thats not preferable. Although I kind of disagree on the issue if an OBE is really out of body, your breathing should keep functionning either way. Since expectations play a huge role in what you actually experience during any dreamlike (including OBE) states, it might also be that since you now expect your breathing to stop, you actually experience this (wether it really happens or not, I cant be sure of course). If you really do experience this "Apnea" (new word to me, Im not native....), you might want to considder consulting official medical channels to resolve it.

What I would try though, but this might stem from my disagreement mentionned earlier, is focussing on a positive intent to keep breathing during the experience, and repeat this to myself (self-hypnosis) before I tried again. 99 out of 100 cases these kinda of methods work to resolve such issues if you really believe they will (its a psychological thing after all). Good luck anyway whatever you do!

I would tell you not to worry about it when you are out of body. I wouldn’t say you waking up gasping is necessarily related to sleep apnea. It could just be shock of getting back to physical body waking up abruptly.
Sleep apnea is mostly just a problem because the rhythm of breathing gets disrupted and your body wakes itself up. You don’t need to do it and ruin an obe your body will do it automatically.
If you are really concerned about having sleep apnea you can see a sleep specialist. I use a breathing machine that pressurizes air through a breathing mask (i hate it). They also have surgery and other options.

Playing didjeridoo may help reduce or eliminate sleep apnea.
