      Predicting the future.

Has anyone ever dreamt something, only to have it happen?

Hey I'm new to this site, and love it - I'm working my way towards lucid dreams etc, it's so damn interesting. I've had a past of very, very tripepd out and strange dreams (I dreamt that I was talking to Osama the other day) they are usually very frequent and very vivid. Ok so this year I saw the future in my dreams twice - my mate (very best mate) was going into hospital to get an operation on his toe. I dreamt that I was him, and that instead of operating on my toe, they started to operate on my inner thigh of my right leg. I went to visit him in hospital and h had a bandage in that exact same place, because they took a skin graft from it. My other dream was that one of our horses was dead. I got back from boarding school to learn that dad had to shoot it. Both times I didn't know what to think...

I'm just wondering if other people have experienced this, and how often, and is there a method of actually obtaining them?

      Cheers,
      Roller

Lots of people here have experienced them, but there is alot of locked horns over wether they are A) Real pregonitve dreams or B) Something else - ie: your brain just working out the most probable thing, etc.

Ah, the human brain is a complicated thing. Truth is we may never really know, until such a time when analytical brain reserach actually has some kind of definate result. I would LIKE to think we can look into the future, but believing in such a method could have unfortunate consequences, one may come to trust whatever you dream, and cause more trouble than it solves.

However, keeping in mind the brain is essentially a super computer, it is probably more likely we calculate the most likely thing to happen, and because those calculations are so accurate (assuming you have the correct information) they seem to 'come true'.

I don't know....I like to keep an open mind, but where there is only speculation it's best to keep to the more logical idea, who knows, maybe one day all of us will really be able to communicate telepathically when we're awake....

      It's quite interesting either way

Yeah I agree, when both of these dreams happened I was kind of speechless, because I'm always fairly sceptical of so-called 'superpowers' or 'supernatural'. Myself, I think there is a lot of stuff that can be learnt from this, but there is probably a (reasonably) good explanation for this. Like you say, we knw so little about our brains...

My mother once had a dream that she was going to go pick up my grandparents at their house. She got there and she says the back door of the car opened up and she watched in the rear view mirror and only her mother got in. She said, "Oh, Dad's not here anymore," and then was woken up by the phone. It was her mother calling to tell her to come over because her dad was dying. He died about an hour later.

I must correct this. What she said was "Oh, Mom's all alone now." but it's basically the same thing.
