Why traditional dream journals are counter productive

    Hello everybody^^

While I have not had that many lucid dreams I have years of experience trying to achieve them. I made this account solely for this post. All I seem to see over the internet is people recommending writing dreams down. Most of the time I couldn't read my hand writing, I had so switch on the lights thus becoming more awake than I wanted to be during the nights and it took ages. Now I use a pre-installed app on my phone to record my voice and deactivate the screen lock for faster access before going to bed. I also turn down the brightness and additionally use a screen filter.

This works wonders give it a try and don't hesitate to comment!!!

Your post isn't exactly titled appropriately. You title it "Why traditional dream journals are counter productive", while only discussing how using an audio recording instead of writing in a traditional book or using a digital dream journal has helped you to record and recall multiple dreams by preventing your eyes from catching as much light and therefore waking you up. (No fault there.)

This technique (though useful) has nothing to do with the effectiveness of a traditional dream journal seeing as most experienced LDers, particularly those of us who use the Wake-Back-To-Bed technique use workarounds like audio recordings or small notepads in conjunction with a traditional written/typed dream journal. (Generally making a small note/reminder of the content of the dream, going back to sleep, rinsing and repeating until you're not sleepy enough to go back into a dream. Then, when you're done, use all your chicken-scratch notes or audio recordings to springboard your memory so that you can remember the chain of dreams you just had.) A traditional DJ isn't any less effective, it's just a matter of there being a time and a place for it.

Actually I have to disagree with you Dafreshprinceof .
I have both an app (Lucidity) and a dream journal (This site) so I can improve my lucid dreaming experience.
I write down my dreams both here in Dreamviews and in Lucidity, and they both help me lucid dream more frequently.. So if writing down your dreams, doesn't work for you, then you can just record your dreams, no problem with that. But other people like myself have no problem with writing down our dreams and we don't consider counter-productive at all.
