    False Awakening

    1. It's Caturday!

So, last night I got drunk. As in, really wasted. And went to bed around 12AM. I woke up at about 6AM and as usual couldn't go back to sleep. As time went on I sobered up. I got up, used the computer, still was tired, so I went back to bed. Around 8:30AM I must have drifted off again.

This was a false awakening and DILD. I woke up (in my head) and... there were cats everywhere! All over my room! Some were cute and wanted to cling to me, others were nasty and had sharp, pointy claws that hurt. They were all pretty dirty. There must have been 10 cats, running around, climbing on my things, etc. I remember one particular orange cat that would appear at intervals and drag some sort of child's plastic wagon from one side of the room to the other, leave it, and disappear until the next trip, as if it were a horse with a cart hauling passengers. Well, I was in no mood for this. I was drunk and cats were scratching me and not letting me sleep, and probably excreting waste everywhere! So I tried to kick them all out of my room. My land lady even woke up and tried to convince me the cats weren't that bad. (She does have one cat, but I hardly ever even see it.) Every time I thought the cats were gone, I'd find more, kick them out, and as I did so, more would try to sneak back in.

I remember saying to my landlady, "This has never happened before!" At that point, I realized I might be dreaming. So I stood in the middle of my room and stuck my index finger right through the palm of my hand. "I'm dreaming!" I screamed! It sounded deep and booming and distorted. Suddenly the cats were gone (except the orange horse-cat mentioned earlier and another friendly dark cat). I had trouble controlling anything here, but I looked at my hand and first I had 4 fingers, then 20, then 12... as if I were looking through a prism. The clock showed 12:333; I was looking for signs that I was dreaming. I had to remind myself with the finger-through-the-palm method a couple more times in order to maintain the lucidity. I turned on the TV (I don't actually have a TV in my room) and watched a cartoon that didn't make much sense. The sound effects were very cool, though, just like I remember from kids' cartoons in the 80's. After a while I got bored of that and tried humming some new tunes, seeing if maybe I could compose something; music is so clear to me when dreaming. I couldn't maintain the intervals though. I would try to sing up and then come back down to the original note and couldn't find it. That was a little frustrating, and that's when I woke up for real, at about 10AM. I tried to fly and imagine myself somewhere else, but that didn't work. Spinning didn't work either, to stabilize. The entire dream took place in my room and just outside my room (dealing with the cats).

I think cats were prominent in this dream because I had been looking at a whole bunch of lolcats someone had posted to Facebook in the time between 6AM and 8AM. It's Caturday, don't ya know.
