    1. 19th Lucid Dream

      by , 04-17-2013 at 08:55 PM
      April 16, 2013 - 2/4 hours in - 5-10 minutes - WBTB, SSILD, RC

I slept for two hours, then was awake for two hours, then did 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length, then went back to bed and had this dream after 2 hours.

I forget how I become lucid, other than that it was through inhaling through a closed nose.

I tell four other people, two of whom I know in reality, to do the same thing. They do so and are shocked at the result. I tell them it was possible because we are in a dream. They let out a sigh a relief.

Later I am in the kitchen. I remember my goal to break things of value. Other people are here and I tell them what I am going to do. They don't really want me breaking anything, and I remind them it is a dream. I then begin breaking various vases and plates that are in here. I throw each one on the floor, and part of it breaks realistically, but the largest portion remains unbroken. I pick up a brown one and they want me to skip that one, which I do, and I say that I skipped it just in case I am sleepwalking, although I don't really believe that is a possibility.

I move on to my next goal of burning something of value. My memory of this part is not too good, but I am in the basement trying to burn something in the water heater burner. Other random burners fire out of the pipes near here.

After this I am not sure what I should do next. I remember the third goal of driving around and smashing things, but I know attempts at driving a car ruined previous lucid dreams (twice). But it is all I can think of, so back upstairs, I go out to the garage while feeling in my pocket for the keys. I slightly feel what seems like the key ring, but I cannot make them appear.

The door to the garage faces the garage door to the outside, unlike real life. My car is not here, but someone points out a garage door leading to another part of the garage. I open this door and my car is the same color, but a different shape, and says "PORSCHE" on the back! I am very happy about this, that I have a cool 'dream car.' I somehow have the keys and use the key to open the door.

The seats are a medium-brown leather, and have a new-leather smell, making this the first time for me the sense of smell has been engaged in a lucid dream. I marvel at how real it seems. I rub my hands more often than usual during this part because I never got further than this before. I look for an ignition, a place to put the key, or a button, but there is nothing for starting the car. Something points to a little black plastic thing sticking out of a part of the dash, so I pull it out and it is just the right size to nestle a quarter in it. I do so, and the car starts. Whatever works, I guess.

I finally did it! I back out of the garage and drive straight into the street. The street is not like any specific street in reality. It is wide and has highway lines painted on it, but the lines angle in and out, like there were turn lanes and so forth. The acceleration is unrealistically fast. I slow and turn right. I smash into a few objects, and I also smash into another car, with no damage or impact felt by me.

During this part, lucidity and realism steadily falls. Driving and the scenery is more and more like a video game, but I don't notice at the time. I don't remember the scenery much, but I do remember a road turning into gravel and becoming a causeway high above the landscape, which even in the dream I remember as being like a video game.

I get bored with this eventually and somehow end up back at home. P. is here just lazily sitting, and I am mad that he wasted his time in a lucid dream. Evidently at this point I am just barely lucid, not realizing that P. is not his real self, but just a dream character. Outside the window, three lanes of jammed traffic end abruptly in front of the house, with a truck carrying a large board game, or a sign with a picture of it. The game is called "Mike" and that name is written on the box in cartoony, orange letters. I recognize this as something I dreamed earlier (whether it actually was I don't know) and describe this to P. as something I dreamed earlier. He says he dreamed the same thing and I and someone else in this room am shocked at this. I ask the name of the game in his dream and he gives two other, random names, and then I 'know' he dreamed something different. I want to scold him for wasting his time in a lucid dream, but I don't get to it before I wake up.

    2. 18th Lucid Dream

      April 6, 2013 - 4.5 hours in - 2 minutes - WBTB, FA, RC

I set a WILD alarm every 30 minutes starting 3.5 hours in, and the first time I got up to drink water and use the bathroom, and each time the alarm went off I would FILD for a little, then did a reality check and was awake, and fell asleep quickly thereafter.

I forget the early lucid part of this dream, but I don't think much happened.

I am laying in bed and I plug my nose and I can inhale and realize I am in a dream. As I reminded myself to do previously next time I am in a lucid dream, I don't hurry out of bed but rub my hands together and move slowly. I don't open my eyes, but wait for visuals to appear, which they do, despite not really feeling like my eyes are open. The lighting throughout the dream is low, like a room in the early morning with the blinds closed.

Once out of bed, I run right through a wall next to the door, which is on the wall perpendicular to the wall it is on in reality. I pass through like it doesn't even exist. On the other side is an identical wall a few feet away, which keeps repeating each time I pass through, although with a slight variation in how far away the next wall is. While doing this I remember that this was one of my goals for my next lucid dream, so I do it a couple more times.

I then move on to my other main goal, of falling backwards, and then instead of passing through a wall again, I turn to the right a little into what seems like an empty room, but I don't look around. I let myself fall backwards, which I do until I hit the carpeted floor (like my bedroom which I started in) and stop suddenly. It doesn't hurt at all, but I 'wake up' in bed.

I think it likely to be a false awakening and I plug my nose and can inhale. I leave my bedroom and am heading up the basement stairs for some reason. I am looking at my phone and it has only the background of the home screen, which shows a clear sky at night, much like it would be in reality. I go towards the kitchen and decide to look at the phone more, since I accomplished my goals. Now it looks like reality with all the icons. I look for Angry Birds, so I press the "Apps" button, which gives me four evenly spaced icons, each one having to do with Angry Birds. During this time I remember not to stare at one spot for too long, so as not to cause waking up. One icon is called "Toss" and I select it.

Unfortunately, at this point my WILD alarm goes off again, ending the dream. This is very disappointing, but I am happy I accomplished my goals with time to spare to goof off.

      March 26, 2013 - 5 hours in - 15 seconds - WBTB, WILD, FILD, FA, RC

Every 20 minutes, for a total of 5 times, I had the WILD alarm go off to wake me up to practice it. However, most times I figured on doing nothing, thinking (wrongly) that I was too awake and I should try it some other time. Then I lay comfortably and alternate very, very slightly tapping my index and middle fingers of my left hand.

I do it for maybe 30 seconds, at no time feeling any perceptible change in anything. I see the patterns of colored lights, but I see these when awake and tired also. Eventually I saw a blob of light that seemed in a sense to be like seeing the window through my eyelids, so I waited a little and then tried to plug my nose and inhale. Up to this point everything felt exactly like reality, yet I inhaled successfully. I can hardly believe it - I transitioned seamlessly into a dream!

I think for a second to try to remember my goals, and I think of breaking something. I try to get up out of bed, but feel a 'change' and do my reality check again. I have woken up, possibly triggered by opening my eyes too soon or by other in-dream movement.

      March 21, 2013 - 7.5 hours in - 3 minutes - WBTB, SSILD, MILD

Woke naturally a couple times and tried to fall right back asleep, then woke naturally after 6.5 hours and did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length. Afterward I did a mantra of "1, I know I'm dreaming, 2, I know I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit up to 25, then went back to bed.

I am in a car with dark seats and T. is driving and E. is in the back seat.

I am looking at a menu of sorts which on its list has something called a male restaurant and a female restaurant. I think this to be strange and as I think more about where I am, I find that I cannot remember how I got here. I ask E. if anyone else is in the back seat and he says no. I plug my nose and try to inhale, but I expect it to not work, since everything seems so real. I can do it but I don't have the right grip, and I do it again and I can definitely inhale. I rub my hands and try not to think about how I am actually lying in bed, and just take in the scenery.

The trees are bare and the ground is covered in snow. The scenery consists of fields and patches of trees mixed about. We are on a wide urban style street with curbs. A street goes off to the right, and the street sign has the name of a real life street a couple miles from where I live. A yellow sign reads "Park Closes Gold." The road narrows and the curb ends and it becomes a road closed in with trees as we head slightly uphill. A green stoplight appears which we go through. There are a couple more green lights, and the road transitions in and out of an urban style road with curbs. Those stoplights on the curbed sections of road are on metal poles, and those on the country-style sections without curb are on wires and/or telephone poles.

As a country road it goes down a hill and I notice that we are going very fast. I fear this will eventually destabilize the dream, so I will it to slow back down. At this point I don't seem to have any awareness of the car anymore. Ahead on the horizon is a large steep hill, and before that point there is a railroad crossing, although this one has green lights, not red ones. A train is coming and I speed up trying to beat the train, although I think to myself there is a good chance I will be hit, ending the dream. I barely make it through in time, surprising myself, but the road curves fairly sharply to the left without me and the visuals fly to the left a little but run out. I don't try to keep the dream and let myself wake up.

      March 11, 2013 - 9 hours in - 2 minutes - WBTB, SSILD, MILD

Was practicing quick DEILD-style WILDs every 15 minutes via alarm starting 3.5 hours in, but just kept going back to sleep on each alarm, and at about 4.5 hours in I just turned those off and fell asleep normally. I then woke naturally about 5.5 hours in and stayed up for about 15-20 minutes, then did the cycles and mantra resulting in the 14th Lucid Dream. On the 3rd awakening (some were natural, some by alarm) after this I did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length, then a mantra of "1, I know I'm dreaming, 2, I know I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit up to 25, then laid down and went back to sleep.

One of my relatives has died and I am very distressed. I plugged my nose when seeing it happen, but it seemed like I couldn't breathe, so I thought it was real even more, and kept wishing it was all a dream.

Me, J., R., and others are sitting at a table in some room. I think again how much I wish this were all a dream and I decide to count my fingers to check again. My hand looks normal at first glance, but I count 6 fingers! I plug my nose and inhale again, this time trying three times, and each time it becomes clearer that I can breathe. What a relief, this is only a dream! I don't notice who the other people at the table are, evidently still thinking I know them so it doesn't matter.

I show them how I have extra fingers, and ask them what they think. Then I show them how I can inhale with a closed nose, and ask them again what they think. I have to tell them that we are in a dream. I don't remember their reactions much, but I think they are somewhat surprised. I don't really know whose dream we are in, but I suspect it is mine. At some point I tell them to hold on, and I look at my hands again a little to stabilize. My right hand has many short fingers. Shortly after this, I wake up.

I see something where it shouldn't be. I realize it as a hallucination and they fade away quickly. I figure that dream imagery has crossed over into waking life somehow.

After this sometime I am laying in bed when I try to plug my nose and breathe. It is successful and I know it is a dream, but my eyes are closed. I try the idea of opening my eyes with my dream hands, which I do, but I still am blind. Anyway, visuals somehow appear shortly afterward. The lighting throughout the house is not bright, like it is only via light from outside windows.

I rub my hands together for a short time on a regular basis throughout the dream. I move slowly and I put pants on, since I don't have any on in the dream for some reason. Then I evidently go into what is supposed to be the other bedroom. I think of my goal of summoning someone, but first I go into that bathroom, which has the same shape as reality, to see if there are any extra doors leading somewhere to explore. There aren't and back in the bedroom, a large sectional sofa with messy sheets occupies the corner of the room. There are two alarm clocks laying on the sheets, one says 29:03, the other says "Guero" (which is evidently a Spanish word, but I didn't know that at the time, so it is just a made up word). I try going in a room like the closet but I wake up before I do anything.

      March 10, 2013 - 5.5 hours in - 20 seconds - WBTB, SSILD, MILD

Woke via alarm after 4.5 hours and got in a comfortable chair and did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length. Afterward I did a mantra of "1, I know I'm dreaming, 2, I know I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit up to 25, then went back to bed.

It is a sunny winter day and I am at a park on a hill, with some fences for sports fields, and a park shelter. A couple of friends took me here. I can't remember why I am there so I call them on the phone and ask what to do. I think that this seems like it might be a dream and plug my nose and can breathe.

I look at the paved path leading to the parking lot on this hill and how the snow is piled in between these, and remark to myself how realistic that is nevertheless. I (impulsively) run back down the hill on the park road to the lower parking lot where the car is but feel it fading as I do this. I jump directly into the side of the car but the dream is gone before I reach it.

This ends in a non-lucid, fairly obvious false awakening where I left on a laptop I don't even have. I wake up for real not too long after this.

Woke via alarm after 3.5 hours and got in a comfortable chair and did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length. Afterward I did a mantra of "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit up to 25, then went back to bed.

My hand passes through the computer monitor like it isn't even there. While my hand is in it, I feel it touch an edge, but I can keep passing through this. I touch a glass paperweight and it is solid. My steadily rising awareness becomes full lucidity around this time. I rub my hands and plug my nose and breathe.

After this I think to myself it has been 10 minutes already. However, I do not think this was actually the case, but perhaps I had been there 10 minutes pre-full-lucidity or this sensation of time passing was manufactured by the dream.

I ate a gummy fish that was sitting there, which is realistic but less chewy, and head upstairs. It is night and I try to look out the window in the front door, but for some reason it is too high. I try to jump, and with difficulty I do so and see large pine and regular trees which are not there in real life.

I head into the bedroom which is also dark and someone is watching TV. It shows a dark room which I think might be something creepy, but its actually just a guy who looks like T. coming in and talking to someone.

      February 24, 2013 - 5 hours in - 2 minutes - WBTB, SSILD, MILD, DS

Woke via alarm after 3.5 hours and did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length. Afterward I fell asleep to a mantra of "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit.

I am in the other bedroom reading a glossary in a book on the nightstand and three terms each starting with "Dream," one of them being "Dream within a dream," are set apart in the list, with descriptions after each one. 'This kind of thing [of randomly reading about dreams] happens to me a lot in dreams,' I thought to myself. Still, possibly because of the mundane setting, and also because I could remember a lot of what I did recently (whether this actually occurred in the dream I don't know), I was certain it was reality. Still, I thought I would check, just because. I plug my nose and inhale successfully.

What a surprise! I thought to myself, "If this is a dream, anything could be a dream!" But now I am fully lucid and I rub my hands to stabilize. J. is here and I plug my nose and inhale and ask J. what she thinks, but she doesn't react much. I say to her, "We're in a dream right now!" She makes a skeptical yet confused face and says, "Okay."

Next I try the finger through palm reality check. I push the first two fingers on my right hand through my left palm, causing the skin to stretch like rubber and making quite an indentation through the other side. I push harder and feel it push through, but look and see the fingers are now only between the other hand's fingers, not through the palm. I try twice more and get the same results. One last time, I push lower down and with a better angle, and it keeps stretching, but for some reason I don't push through all the way. I guess even in a dream I don't feel like damaging my hand.

She wants to hug me goodbye (like reality) and I unthinkingly comply. As I lean over to do so, I wake up instantly.

      February 23, 2013 - 6 hours in - 3 minutes - WBTB, SSILD, MILD, FA, RC

Woke via alarm after 3.5 hours and did about 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length, doing the cycles the same every 1.5 hours after that. Afterward I fell asleep to a mantra of "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit. The mantra only was done on other natural awakenings.

I wake up in bed. I plug my nose to see if I can breathe, but at first I can't tell. I try a little more and it seems like some air is getting through, so I try harder and I can definitely breathe. This is in fact a dream, only problem, there is no vision. I don't open my eyes right away so I don't open my real eyes and wake up. Somehow I eventually see, perhaps by opening my eyes slowly, and it is rather light in my bedroom. (This time, in reality, it is actually pretty dark.) I can feel the sheet on my body. I reach for my cellphone, to do some experiments which I had been hoping to try. The phone is pushed up against the headboard by a pillow, and grab it carefully so it doesn't fall down behind the bed. I pinch its (hard in reality) plastic skin somehow and hold the phone in my hand while I periodically rub my left hand on my wrist to stabilize.

I turn it on and the background looks normal, but the two rows of apps are made of random colorful icons and names I have never seen. I look for one called "Gallery" and tap it. Like reality, there are three categories of pictures, but they have the names "MILK," "GREEN ONIONS," and something else along those lines. One of them shows a picture of a cartoon milk carton. I think I tap on one but forget what is in it.

Then I go back to the home screen and look for an app called "Maps." I tap it, but it displays something like a game intro screen with a cartoon guy in a green shirt in a cartoon city. There is a message that pops up that I think had to do with setting it up. I give up on this and go back to the home screen, and I want to activate the Siri-like voice assistant, but before I can do that, the phone displays an error message with technical jargon and turns off.

I think at this point lucidity also disappeared. Then I think outside the window some people I know are wanting me to come outside, so I tell them I'll be out soon. I wake up shortly after this.

Afterward I fell asleep to a mantra of "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit. The mantra only was done on other natural awakenings.

Me and a friend are driving at night down a street with a traffic light ahead and I see a kid in a white jacket with hood who looks like he is running away from home. I suggest letting someone know about this, but then I notice 3 or 4 duplicates of this kid walking at regular intervals down the road away from us. I get out and see the kid is actually looking backward somehow, with a blank, lifeless expression.

I find this creepy, but also then realize that this is all a dream. I plug my nose and breathe, then I run up to the next kid, who has the same expression. This creeps me out again, ending this dream scene and putting me in my dark bedroom in a false awakening.

I plug my nose and know it is still a dream. I can see the low light from the window. I don't like how it is still dark, so I shout "Light!" but it does nothing. I try to reach over for my phone to try stuff on it, but the dream ends and I feel my right hand making a plugging motion, not on my nose, but on a pillow. I open my eyes and see that it is dark only because my head is under the blanket. I have woken up for real.

Afterward I fell asleep to a mantra of "1, I'm dreaming, 2, I'm dreaming, 3..." while trying to visualize each digit. The mantra only was done on other natural awakenings.

I am standing there with someone in a hotel when a thought about lucid dreaming runs across my mind. I suddenly realize that I am in fact in a lucid dream and I rub my hands together and plug my nose and breathe. The decor is very red - the carpet is red, but not a solid red, but based around that color. The walls are paneled with a red wood.

The impulse comes over me to run and explore and I do so. I want to run down a hallway ahead and to the left, but before that is a row of pillars parallel to the wall, and each pillar is made of the same wood as the wall, in a similar shape to a two-by-four. I think I will have to run straight through this and then left, but then I see there is nothing in between the pillars and I cut the corner.

Running down this hallway, I run right into a large room. There is a large green leafy potted bush that is too big to jump over in reality, and I decide to try it in the dream. I do it, so then I jump with the expectation of flying through the air (like a long jump, but unrealistically long). I fly past a chandelier but then the sensation of motion ends and it blacks out. I spin around which I feel but then the sensation of laying in bed returns to my body, but from the legs up, not all at once.

I did not record the dream until later however, so this was either a false awakening or I went back to sleep to wait until the next WBTB alarm.

      February 13, 2013 - 5.5 hours in - 2 minutes - WBTB, SSILD

5 hours in I wake up and do 6 SSILD cycles of gradually increasing length.

I am riding in a car at night with houses being passed. I could tell the dream was ending, evidently spontaneously realizing it is in fact a dream. I felt I could tell from the feeling in my stomach, and I complained about this out loud to the others, but I don't know what if anything was their reaction. (It's also possible the feeling was just the hunger I felt before going back to bed.) I try to increase lucidity by performing simple addition. Despite rubbing my hands together, the visuals fade to black from the outside in.

I spin around, which I feel (despite the fact I was sitting down moments earlier) and the scene comes back. I look at my hands, but through my left eye some fingers on the left hand are invisible, and through my right eye the right hand is totally invisible. The car comes out of a tunnel into daylight, and this seems to correspond with the car and tactile senses disappearing. What remains is the visuals of following a narrow ledge curving right - too narrow for a car - on a sandstone cliff with the sound of a car driving over a bumpy road. I look right and my view is flying through the air (with no feeling of flying) while curving left. I see irregular sandstone cliffs, much like you would see in the Southwest. They are all the same color, but the cracks and irregularities are detailed and I marvel at the scenery. I do however note a street sign on a post standing at the top of the cliff. As the view is flying along, it blacks out and I feel myself laying in bed.

I wake up after 5 hours via alarm and do the full set of SSILD cycles, then I wake up earlier than the alarm, every 20 to 90 minutes, doing a few cycles each time as I fall asleep.

I am in a preexisting dream that I find extremely undesirable, although I don't remember being scared per se.

I realize on some level that it is not real, possibly because of the emotional reaction involved. I blink rapidly and shout, "Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!"

I am laying in bed in my dark bedroom. (In reality at this time it should be rather bright.) I plug my nose and amazingly, I can breathe. Somehow this false awakening ends into another, with the same action performed by me. I get up out of bed quickly and try to feel the wall, and I feel my closet door and then the wall, and then I feel the light switch. It is already up, and I flip it down and there is still no light. I open the door and run down to another part of the house.

      J. is here and in front of her I plug my nose and breathe deeply. I say that is physically impossible and ask her how I did that. She says something like, "It only sounds like you did that." Then I look at my hand and start counting fingers out loud - "one, two, three" - but then I realize my hand actually looks normal. So I give up on showing her my hand and leave.

Now it is light everywhere, sort of blue-ish. I explore the house at this point. Unlike the last lucid dream, this time I realize a lot of it looks different from reality, but I don't recall most specifics. I am able to run from place to place, which I do a lot since it is tireless and fast. I go in the basement and am surprised the door is open. Downstairs the walls and ceiling are finished, with them and the floor all having paint like the upstairs walls. The ceiling is mostly flat but slopes downward slightly near the long sides. The overall shape of the basement looks like reality. On the floor I see a black dead centipede broken in a few pieces that is about twice the size of reality. This make me apprehensive of what I might find down there, like spiders, but it looks clear and I proceed with the stairway to my left. On the right wall, some dirty insulation is strewn on the floor, with dirty water on the floor there. I look at my hands (this time there are extra fingers) and shout "Clarity now!" but this only seems to make everything blur temporarily, each time I tried it.

Back upstairs, I see a white bookshelf with some of my books on it. I take one and start reading randomly. It talks about vaccines (which this particular book very well may have), in detailed technical jargon that I try to comprehend without focusing too much, but cannot. I glance at the rest of the pages open and various medical treatments are mentioned, with each one named in small caps. The book, font, and paper are very realistic.

Next, my idea is to get my car keys and drive away.

It seems at this point my bedroom and the dining room are arranged in the manner of the old house, but I don't notice this in the dream. In the dining room, I see the loop the keys are on hanging on a horizontal door handle. They look fake to me, but I figure they'll work anyway, so I try to take them. However, the door handle is attached on both ends, so it is impossible to get the keys off. I give up on these and head towards my closet in the other room (which is like the closet of the new house but in the position in the room of the old). I evidently feel the dream fading, as I plug my nose and breathe to try to keep it going, as I head towards the right door. Before I can, however, I wake up.

    15. 5th Lucid Dream

      January 31, 2013 - 8.5 hours in - 5 minutes - WBTB, SSILD

Every 90 minutes or less I awoke, and did a couple SSILD cycles as I fell back asleep.

I am playing around with a cellphone, but it isn't working quite right.

I then suspect that I am dreaming. I look outside. I can see the leaves on the trees clearly, although my focus fluctuates, even though I know somehow that I have no contacts in or glasses on. (Although I never remember that it is really winter anyway!) I know for sure that this is a dream.

I forget this part somewhat, I believe I just walked around the house, happy to finally be lucid for a decent period of time, and not doing anything to upset it, just rubbing my hands together a lot. I don't remember thinking anything in the house looked odd, but it probably did look different, I just didn't notice.

I look at the details in some objects. In the bathroom, the brown tissue holder looks real, I can even see the dust on it, which was a lot. I sit and close my eyes for some reason. I realize my mistake and visualize the bathroom being there when I open them, which it is, but the counter is a totally different shape and color.

I look at a book on the bookshelf. The text is in a similar pattern, but the chapter titles don't make coherent sense. In another book, the pages are stuck together a lot, and I turn first to the index, then back to the main text. Some numbers in a list are out of order or repeated.

After this I think to myself I have run out of ideas, probably due to poor memory and imagination even in a lucid state, and because it has lasted several minutes already, longer than any since the 1st lucid dream. I take an object from a shelf above the desk. Some little pieces break off and I try to put it back together for some reason (even though it doesn't exist). This distraction causes the dream to go black and I feel myself laying in bed.
