    1. A musician's worst nightmare [non-lucid]

      by , 07-08-2011 at 03:25 PM
This dream was short (I need to work on my recall), and frustrating --I accomplished the beginner TOTM but it was non-lucid.

I was in my house, sitting on the couch, when my cousins dropped by. Given that they live roughly 90 minutes away, this was a little odd. One of my youngest cousins proclaimed that he needed to do a trick--pen spinning, and promptly searched the house for suitable pen, long and heavy. After finally settling on a black pen from the local UPS store, he showcased a repertoire of tricks which was quite impressive.

Not to be outdone, an older cousin started spinning ten objects at once. His props looked somewhat like 6-inch tapered cylinders, about 1/2 inch thick, of shiny dark metal. After failing, this older cousin decided to try his hand at cup-stacking, and produced a mind-boggling display with about 20 cups (and no table to set the cups on ).

Going down to the basement, which houses my piano, I decided to try to learn by ear some wedding music of a friend who is getting married. The music turned out to be an odd compilation of Audio Adrenaline, but in the punk-rock style. I played it on my piano, and, being a musician, it sounded like a normal piano--nothing out of the ordinary (except that it was in tune). This was the beginning TOTM, but I wasn't lucid.

The dream skipped to the wedding, where apparently I was supposed to play, and did not have any music (I had forgotten it at home). After getting extremely worried, and talking to the groom, who was lounging about with no apparent concern, I woke up.

    2. Looking for a Book [non-lucid]

I found myself standing in the American southwest desert, around the golden hour. The soil was a deep red, and the desert was dotted with small scrub-like plants. A lone saguaro stood in the center of the desert. Though I did not know how I had arrived in this place, I knew what I had to do: find my lost book, The Confessions of St. Augustine. A man, possibly the owner of the property, came walking up to me and handed the lost book to me, asking if it was mine.

After I had found the book, I walked to the south and came upon two Austrian pines which had branches broken off, presumably because of snowfall. In itself, this was not out of the ordinary, but each tree had had one branch broken off--and the decimated branches were around six feet thick, which gave the appearance of a large tree trunk protruding from one side of the tree. As I looked down, I found that my book had transformed into an Android tablet with a 3x5 inch screen and a large Querty keyboard running Ubuntu linux 11.04 As I decided to try to switch it over to KDE, a different window manager, the dream shifted.
